If kenty posted more in the The Cafe, the CA would be left alone to deal with real issues :lol2:

What I was going to say was about the existence of the CA forum. If you take a look back prior to the CA forum being created there were no where near as many politically orientated or even contentious threads. In one way creating this forum moved the contentious threads from the cafe but also fueled the fire and encouraged more political threads. What we have now is some kind of odd little political forum as the third forum in a swingers site confused??: It makes no sense what so ever. If you create a sports forum and a computer games forum what kind of threads do you think you will get in there? lol We dont have them though cus this is a swinging/sex site, but then why do we have current affairs :???: Another one of the questions I was going to ask is what is "current affairs"? I think most people associate current affairs rightly or wrongly with politics. The word current though is confusing as I note we get some X factor threads in Current affairs and some in the cafe :dunno:
One thing I will say for certain though that I have always said and that is this CA forum does not belong or fit in here. This is a sex site  Logging into a thread about what three politicians just did what with links to three newspaper articles is just not right at least not when there are ten or fifteen such threads on a page. However rightly or wrongly that is what has been created by dividing the forums all those years back. If you were to remove the CA forum now you may actually have the problem of political threads clogging up the cafe which was supposed to be the original problem. So what you have now is a political forum in the middle of swingers site looking just as out of place as a dogging forum as the third option in current affairs forum

I would have to disagree, lots of people here like to discuss current affairs which are often politically based. The fact that this is a swingers site seems irrelevant to me. If it was out of place, in my view, no one would post in it.
I agree with tweeky.
That analogy about having a computer games forum is genius.

and the chat room forum?
I can recall the horror expressed at the time that was opened but it has found its place in the mix of things here so what's the problem? dunno

I have to agree with Blue. On the basis of your own argument Tweeky, only a small minority of posts in the cafe have any relevance on a swingers site, as very few of them are to do with sex. You have been complaining about how quiet the forums are, they would be a lot quieter if threads were restricted to just sexual topics.
I understand your comments re a separate forum possibly fuelling more contentious threads but then again no one has to visit the forum if they don't want to read such threads.

And I like to talk about Console on line gaming, so lets have a forum for that? Point is I dont need one as I talk about that on a console on line website forum which is where it belongs.

The Chat room forum has a very good role simply because of the technical problems that chat throws up.

A lot of forums have an all in kind of area like the cafe supported by other forums that are linked to the main theme of the website. The reason for this is there is only so much you can discuss about one thing in this case swinging. That why there is normally an all in forum cafe/lounge or whatever where all the other subjects are discussed. From my point of view here on Swingingheaven we have the Cafe supported by nine other forums which in most ways support the theme of the site with the exception in my view of the Current affairs forum and the just for fun forum. The Cafe and just for fun should be as one and the current affairs forum should just never have existed. The others are fairly much justified minus the fact the introduce yourself forum is a massive disaster.
No one forces you to go into the CA forum Tweeky. If you don't like it, don't go there. Simples! dunno

Perhaps if you can get enough other people to talk about "on line gaming consoles", which then clutters up the cafe sufficiently, you may be lucky. wink
I would imagine its a supply and demand type thing, it clearly must be worth while for the site or it would be removed

I check all the forums Max for the reason I gave above and that is what is Current affairs. Every now and then there is a thread here I will post in but that still does not mean to say I think this forum should actually be here.

Maybe it wouldn't be that hard if that was actually what happened. Check the link below to the cafe in 2006 prior to the forum divides.

How many current affairs threads do you see? Possibly two both related and not a political post in sight on page one at least I didn't go past page one. There was no over running of political threads. Dividing the forums and creating one called "current affairs created what you see here today over a period of time. If you make a console gaming forum on here in 4-5 years time you may well see a selection of people using it :dunno:
My only real issue with this is how it portrays us. I can only think how this forum would look to me today if I arrived here as a newbie? I think the Current affairs forum heavy on politics with a slapping of bitchiness and point scoring would put me off a bit especially if it seemed to be the busiest forum :dunno: I also stand by what I have said before which is the Current affairs forum just does not fit in with the site. Again from a newbie perspective I am sure I would notice that even more

Tweeky, if you think that there was no bitchiness and point scoring prior to the CA forum, you are very mistaken. I don't bother with quite a few of the other forums on here but I don't bemoan the fact that they exist. Live and let live.

I didnt say there wasent. Try reading what I actually wrote Max. I pointed out the reasons for everything pretty clearly.

I had read and fully understood all you had written and my point is still valid. I didn't post in the Cafe for a long time after becoming a member of this site due to several reasons, including bitchiness, point scoring and the regular flaming of newbies. IMO the site is much better in that respect now.
Have a quick look down the number of views of each thread on the front pages of both the Cafe and CA and I think you will find that there are obviously a hell of a lot of members that do read the threads in CA.

The only thing I can say is that the CA is quite well supported now.
I have only ever been a member of one other site of this type with a forum, that site was from the US, its political forum was also quite edgy, in fact they were very rude to each other and far less moderation than here. It still remained very popular.
I can only presume that the powers that be feel the CA must be worth the trouble as it is still here.
For me, it is my favourite part of the forums, and I thank the mods and the owners for the foresight.
I have read about the study and I tend to disagree with it. The one thing that stands out the destruction of the drug correlates to its availability. Alcohol drank in moderation has mild health benefits such as lower blood pressure, lower blood cholesterol levels, and other benefits. The key is to get these benefits only one unit of alcohol a day can be drank and too much can be damaging. For me, the key is not trying to restrict alcohol. Some point you raise such as taxation only validates to the State that it should act like a nanny thereby dictating what is acceptable. Other measures such as raising the age limit has not worked in the US and maximum alcohol contents I feel would people would drink more. Instead it is about education and teaching proper coping mechanisms so that dependency on drugs like alcohol is reduced.

I agree with the first sentence above. Yes it is quite well supported now but my point was more about why it came about on a swingers forum. I dont actually think CA forum should be removed even. The problem now is it is well used and populated and if it were removed those threads would spill into the cafe creating the so called original problem that never actually existed lol Yes the cafe was bitchy at points but it was never very political.
I dont believe the powers that be think its worth while I think they divided the forums into 10 and fooked off. You only have to look at the introduce yourself forum to see that they pay no attention to a forums popularity or not. As for the foresight rolleyes that I really dont believe. It was a badly named forum thats created a political debate society in the middle of a swinging community. As I have said above I dont like it because of the way it makes us look as a community.
All that said I dont think anything will or can be done. I just see this as the boil on SH's forum ass sticking out like sore thumb  and with that I would suggest we stop derailing this topic about errrm alcohol was it not. Any mods want to chop these posts out and put them in a thread call what is current affairs then please feel free biggrin
We encounter far more folk at SH socials who are too pissed to shag then we do people who are too smacked up to shag.
