If this is true, it's a f***ing disgrace, another example of how our civil rights have been eroded under this government. The sooner they are sent packing the better!! mad
I notice the picture of the cop with the speed gun.
Funny though how I think it is Swindon, has closed down ALL speed cameras as they say it does not do any good.
Will others follw suit? I think not. It is all about money and not about anyones innocence or guilt.
To charge someone for an offence and then to get them into court, they then get found not guilty and have to pay their costs is nothing short of a scandal.
This is all about money...simple.
Where is all the taxpayers money going where it seems local councils are skint. Is this really the answer to persecute people....Orwell was def right.
How on earth can this be justified? If this is true, and it seems it is, then it is outrageous and flies in the face of fairnees. It goes beyond unfair to be honest more towards ludicrous.

Not true. They have only removed the fixed GATSO cameras (There's only 5 now in the whole of Wiltshire). Mobile canera units are still active of which there are 14 in the county.

Hopefully the next incoming government will squash this. Totally ridiculous.
Or is this just some sly plot to deter you from arguing against an unlawful speeding fine thereby increasing revenue to the treasury coffers? as the cost of just coughing up the £60 instead of arguing the case is a lot lower.
If I read the changes correctly, this will not just apply to motorists but to all cases that come before a magistrate. True, motorists will be most heavily hit but the law will actually apply to anyone who is taken before a magistrate for ANY alleged crime and subsequently found to be innocent. I'm just surprised they haven't gone the whole hog and demanded payment for the time wasted by the police and CPS in (wrongfully) bringing the case !!!!
Are we sure this isn;t just another scare meassage. Governments of both colours do this regularly. They allow something absolutely outrageous to be leaked, and people get up in arms about (quite rightly at first glance).
The reasons vary.
a) To act as a smokescreen against an existing or imminent exposure of government wrongdoing,
b) To test the water on the subject which then is modified to become more likely to be accepted,
c) To scare the bejeezus out of us and then they announce somthing that is also unacceptable but the public are so shell-shocked by the orignal leak, they accept the (always intended) change almost with gratitude. Or at least with resignation.
What do you think?
