So it now seems after all the no no's and the nevers, the BBC have relented and are going to allow the BNP airing time on Question time.
Now I for one agree that the BNP have a right to stand along side the other parties as far as live televised debates go. I do not agree with the BNP's outlook or their policies but....I feel that as a party who obviously have now got two seats in Europe, and an obvious following, that they should be allowed to sit around the table with the other parties.
Jack Straw once said...he would never sit around a table with the BNP, but seems even he has acknowledged he has too.
Are the BBC right in allowing this, and will the BNP as many have said, really show their true colours and end up being to a detrimental effect at the ballot box? Or will it only heighten their already growing support?
As I have said as a party that does have seats in Europe, whether I like it or not, they should be given air time the same as the others. If we trully live in a democratic country.
its totally irrelevent who you vote for or whom is elected. power remains in the hands of the economically most powerful people in society. and when they are ready, they will promote in their press, finance through their proxies, the bnp/national front/extreme right wing parties to set black against white, indegenous against foreigner, different from normal, in order to carry out their agenda. if you think you live or have ever lived in a democracy, you are deluded but, that o.k. keep chasin osama binliner, they will say he's hiding in iran next and we gotta bomb em and occupy the place. expect gordy, milliband, dave and the media to fall into line.
there will be no hiccup in the status quo. not unless the masses move. hung parliaments and deals between political parties (lib/lab pact) only serve the interests of the status quo. while politicians squabble over who can cut the most, and labour will claim they can do it more sensitively than the conservatives (good selling point) the real movers and shakers move out of the limelight but all three parties will do as their told, lest they lose their privilages or end up in the woods.
I dont believe in censorship at all so i am happy for any political party to express its legal views.
The BNP is doing a very good job at spreading its hate under a cloak of populist respectability. If you read the leaflets from the European campaign, you will find they wouldnt be out of place as editorials in the Sun or the Mail.
Sadly they are gonna get stronger and stronger in the Euro and local elections although their core voters (the people society has left behind and abandoned) will usually revert to the big parties at national elections.
The party seems to have a frightening mount of money to spend as evidenced by the glossy leaflets delivered by the post office at the euro election. I do wonder where these funds are coming from.
the main problem with it....is it gives the BNP credability. They are simply a bunch of far right, racist thugs, that are trying to hide behind a suit and tie.
BNP won thier votes fair and square-simple.
Let them go on the telly, if nick griffin is as bad as people say, it will show.
They have every right to be on tv at least we can learn more of there policies on climate change, tackling credit crunch among others.....
I will bet this is the most viewed question time ever!
The BNP are as entitled to their opinions as anyone else regardless of how upsetting they are to a lot of people. What the "no platform" screamers are doing by "starving them of the oxygen of publicity," is clouding an issue that most people would have seen through, given the oportunity. Denying people the right to hear what they have to say is also denying those with the savvy the right to engage them in open debate.
Whatever you think of that party and it's politics, they will not be defeated with prohibition. Watch Brown dig his own grave over the coming weeks, and from the position of Prime Minister too.
The ocasional slot on Question Time will not get Nick Griffin into Downing Street.
