And what about the aqueducts?

Nothing wrong with the Poll tax. People use services, not buildings. I did not agree with the amounts people were being asked to pay, but the principles were right in my opinion.
Saville and Thatcher would have made a good team in their day.

Funnily enough .... loads of people care about soldiers who die in ridiculous wars !
Obviously one of the wars you thought was not ' necessary ' ? innocent

What a ridiculous thing to say, on what basis would they have made a good team? One used their position of power and wealth to use vulnerable people and make them miserable ... the other was Jimmy Saville !

Another Thatcher hater obviously. rolleyes
I hate both of them, they are welcome to each other !

You talk about saying ridiculous things? You slate Thatcher yet if your 38 you was 5 when she came to power as PM, and 16 when she left as PM. So may I ask what you actually knew about her as nothing she did would have affected you. Too much news reading can be bad for you. wink

I agree with the sentiment entirely Star, however I am the same age and I think its a little disingenuous to say nothing Mrs Thatcher did would have affected us. It takes time for legislation to pass, it takes even more time for it to kick in and some of the things she did when she was in power were therefore enacted after she lost the leadership.
I know she affected my life.

In what way did she actively affect your life Trev? The thing she is hated so much for was the poll tax, yet that was overturned. The rest I am at a loss as to how she could affect a persons life who was a child them self when she was in power.
John Major followed her for 7 years and had all the opportunity needed to overturn her policies. Did he?
It is personal and private to my family Star, but I will send you a PM if you wish?
Personally I agree with you that the principle of the poll tax was sound, but not born out by the ammount that people were expected to pay. fortunately I was too young to worry about it.
Just to point out that the Act of Union was in 1800, but it affects us all still. Income tax was introduced in 1798 and affects us all still.
As I said before, just because Mrs Thatcher is no longer in power it doesn't mean her decisions when she was in power no longer affect people's lives.
Hmmm strange ... 5-16 i was at School so to say she didn't effect my life is another silly statement.
I enjoyed politics from an early age and as Trev states her policies and outlook are still being felt today, i think for the worse ... others think for the best.
The co-alition government i feel are making up for "lost years" in their eyes and using Labour's shambolic later stages in government to further Thatcherite policies.
Anyway my thoughts on Thatcher are by the by ... i think everyone's view on Saville are the same ....
I'm still waiting to see what kind of team you think a politician and a would make?

One things for sure, they would make wearing of school uniforms compulsory, and probably ball gags too!

War is rarely "necessary" !! Only a fool would say otherwise .
I made no comment whatsoever about whether or not the war was necessary so I don`t see your point at all .
In the RIP ...a soldier thread

I can see my point as clear as water in a lake. :bounce: Tell me when soldiers are necessary then please.

Well Mrs T was indeed a damn fine politician and leader, but who is the exactly? I must have missed the bit where he was convicted by a judge and jury, or even any inquiry that found him guilty.
Unless you have evidence that supports a different story dunno
Nooooooooooooo Suede, not media witch hunt news but actual evidence of his guilt. I shall await this new found evidence, or is he just guilty in your eyes? Thankfully people in this great country of ours are innocent until proven otherwise.
Think I shall just carry on with my whistling. innocent
