i know Red Ken may not be the best alternative, but is an Eton buffoon the real image we want to portray of London? Or perhaps it is?
But I find as politicians I quite like both of them, Red Ken and Boris. They both may say embarrassing things about themselves, and their political parties. I guess that is the attraction?
Obviously enough people voted for BJ for him to be elected. It's called democracy!
Looking at the results, think more of a Boris vote rather than a 'party' vote, especially when compared with GLA results
It's a London thing, so maybe nothing to do with me, but I find it odd that a city of that size couldn't come up with more options than those two. Just 2 people want to run a city of such 'importance'? Even if it is just for the inevitable back-handers and sweeteners they would be in line for. Which means the other 6 million people who live there don't want to get involved. dunno

well the city of Greater Manchester has 2.2 million people but Manchester city has over 500,000.
they were asked if they wanted a mayor in thursdays vote, and they voted that they did not. so whilst london could only come up with 2 candidates, in some cities they did not even want a mayor at all.
i think london does not need a mayor. the idea was adopted over here from looking at new york and the work there mayor does. does london really need a mayor at all :dunno: it seems that all they do is put things up even further and do things like the congestion charge, or the congestion zones. the congestion zone rules and regs have meant that thousands of businesses both small and large have had to spend thousands of pounds, converting there vehicles to meet very tough emission laws in london, without a shred of evidence that it has actually done anything, other than to raise millions of pounds for the mayors coffers.
i never voted as i think there is nothing to choose between bent ken and mad boris. and that on paper they are both dreadful for london in general.

I thought the same thing reading the title... ;)
Boris is brilliant. The Mayor of London has and won't ever have an effect on me, but more politicians should be like him. He's nuts, funny but ultimately appears to get things done, and has a lot of good ideas.
