Is this as bad as our justice system gets?

A family wiped out at the hands of a lorry driver, who was obviously inept in the extreme.
Imagine that being your family or a family you knew.
Three years....out in 18 months.....for killing six people? Well if that is British justice, then it stinks...much worse than dog shite.
I find this difficult 777 as on one hand those poor poor victims and god forbid how their loved ones are coping I can only guess. I totally understand how those left behind should feel at the sentences meted out.
forgive though please if I also feel so sorry for the lorry driver. OK he is still alive and has a life beyond his sentence to go back to whereas those six poor victims are now no more. It is no defence but do you think that this guy meant for this too happen?
OK they were killed but there was no intention it was not murder. How is he going to feel for the rest of his days? OK OK the arguement there is at least he can feel. There was no intention to go out and kill that day was there.
They are all victims. I think this is where British justice works with its lack of compassion. The sentence handed out by the court is the right one I would hazard a guess. But for the family and friends left there is no adequate sentence. For the driver the court only handed out the legal sentence not the ones he has to live with.

For once I am completely with you!
It's worse than digusting, they let him of the charge of dangerous driving!! If killing 6 people whilst being distracted at the wheel of a 40 tonne lorry isn't dangerous I have no idea what is!

He could have given the driver three years for each victim. Thats 18 years in total. Instead he got three years, and out in 18 months.
18 months for six deaths...that works out at 3 months for each death. Not much really is it? Three months for killing somebody, whether deliberate or not.
Another person would get more than three months for punching somebody in the face sometimes.
It is a ludicrously soft sentence, even by todays soft sentence judges.
Yeah have to agree. Its not really worth making all the comparisons, but I have to say it sounds by what I have read that he should serve a longer sentence if only as an example to others who drive without taking enough care.

Thats a facile arguement - Punching someone is done with intent
I stand by what I say though understand the emotive issues behind it, I have the luxury of not being intimately involved thank god. If i was then I know I would of asked for more. Much more

I think you can only take each case as individual. Setting examples sounds dodgy to me. I guess that maybe be a unique position I hold but hey.

From what I read today the judge couldn't give 18 years - since the deaths were all a single (tragic) event, the sentences had to run concurrently. A point of law apparently.
There is an ad on late at the moment - wherever a guy looks he sees the broken body and staring eyes of a young lad he knocked down and killed. It's clear that the memory is destroying him.
While I can fully understand that nothing less than a sentence of a slow and agonising death could ever be enough for the bereaved family, the 'perpetrator' surely suffers far worse than any punishment a court has the power to offer. At least I hope they do.

good point ...
xx
yes i agree he will be thinking about this for the rest of his life (or should be) but so will the families involved .... Imagine a grandmother not only burying her son or daughter but her grandchildren too, a family totally wiped out.
On sentancing today they have said he will be out in 1 yr 27 days (roughly) because of time already served ! madness !
We can all but hope that the driver DOES suffer.
HE and HE alone caused those deaths..........period for me.
As somebody has already said that if driving a 40 tonn lorry, without due care and attention is nor bloody dangerous, then I do not know what is either.
We are all I suspect guilty of driving without due care and I've never killed anyone.

That is the same with anything.
Most break the law at some time or another, but..........we know what will happen if we get caught.
He was a tosser who got caught, but in this case the sentence did not fit the crime.

Obviously the courts don't agree.....try lobbying your mp to see if he can get it referred back......there is I believe a system of appeal by higher courts against what is viewed as a lenient sentence.
However I'm not party to the details of the case as I wasn't present in court.....so I'm not prepared to judge the driver or indeed anyone else.

Riding a motorcycle too fast on public roads can cause a huge amount of damage ...
Be careful what you wish for ........
Why the childish comment?

I think in this case justice has been served.
The guy was caught, tried and convicted. He has recieved a prison sentence.
What more do you want?
Oh , sorry, looks like only a lynching would appease some!!!!!
