If for some unknown reason Brown was to telephone me I would most definitely want to record the conversation. If for no other reason than I know he can't keep his stupid foot out out his stupid mouth, it would make a change to make money at his personal expense, and I'd like to see him tied to a van and driven around until dead, (cheers for that one Jez Clarkson).

oh... and GnV.... do you have the same disrespect for John Major.... I only ask because he and his last conservative administration were under the same calls to call an election, and then held out to the last possible date to have one.....
or does your faux-rage only point one way?
)

John Major was the elected leader of the party when the Conservatives were returned to power with a mandate from the Country, so therefore had legitimacy.
Gordon Brown was/is not. wink
He was still unelected by the people when he took power and waited two years before he announced a general election.
The general public have never voted for who becomes Prime Minister. The only person we vote for is the one who represents which ever constituancy we live in. The PM is decided by the members of which ever party has the most elected candidates at an election.

And GB never achieved that.. his henchmen bullied contenders into submission telling them that their political aspirations would be at an end and their constituency chairperson (ugh) would call a reselection meeting.
Bliar, on the other hand, was so selected by his Parliamentary peers.
Don't you remember the election calls at the last election from the Conservatives? "Vote Bliar get Brown" was the clarion call totally dismissed by the labour leadership at the time and Bliar insisting that he would "see it through".
Did he? Did he fuck. He jumped ship at the first opportunity leaving bully Brown to ensure his destiny (under an agreement which they always denied, of course).
At least John Major (referred to by Mr Powers earlier) was elected by his parliamentary peers in an honest and proper election after Margaret Thatcher's resignation - not anointed as Brown was in true banana Republican style.
No wonder he supported the corrupt Presidential elections in Afghanistan when everyone else (who mattered) was extremely wary
I wish GB no harm. I'm sure deep down he is fundamentally a decent man and means well but he just can't cut the mustard and has to go.

Don't you mean "morass"?
The definition for which is "Something that hinders, engulfs, or overwhelms" ?
On topic ...just more media bollocks
Off topic...Referendum...I think you'll find I told you so
*walks away looking a bit smug*
whilst it is deeply sad to hear of yet another bereavement of a mother and family of one of our young men and the ineptitude of the prime minister in relation to his poor communications, i wonder.
why does the whole of the media give this issue so much space even after a personal apology. surely the greater travesty is the war itself ? yet another pack of lies. sorry mum, your lad died fighting al qaeder, osama bin liner, holed up in a cave in tora bora where he directed aircraft to attack america and fighting the taliban who supported him.
a foreign army of invaders fighting the afghans for control of their country which they will never give up. now lets get off the diversions, sad as they are and bring the troops home !

Albert Einstein couldn't spell.
He was dyslexic.
Would you have stopped him doing science experiments?
Heard on the radio this morning that The Sun has a recording of the phone call brown made to the mother to say sorry, call me a cynic, but I think she's in it for the money.

Can you blame her?
How much will she get for the death of her Son?
Peanuts compared to some of the shit compensation claims that are being paid out to SOME!!
No ammount can bring her Son back, but your being a tad sceptical about her getting any money from the Sun.
IF she does get any money I bet she will donate it to something like the British Legion.
I will keep you posted if I hear anything.

As people on here are well aware, I hate Labour and it's deliberate attemp to destroy Britain and It's history.
I hated Blair and I certainly dislike Brown.
But I have to say he is being treated a tad unfairly here....shock horror I hear you cry,,,,what Kenty saying something nice for a change? Well no not exactly wink , the guy is a 100% arse and his handling of this war is inept and useless to the extremes but....the guy would never have deliberatly done this.
His spelling yes is dreadful, his attitude stinks at the best of times, but a bad mistake yes, but a mistake is all it was.
I want him to go...he is a complete muppet but this I do feel is a bit unfair.
Now where are me sandals and me copy of the Guardian, and then when I have done that I will be out cycling. lol , and put me application in for a social workers position.

Who ever stole Kenty..........can we have him back please. Put him in a box and send him back to Swinging Heaven, The Tinternet, UK, I'll even pay the postage myself

In two days I have changed my opinion on something, and now sticking up for Brown.....fuck as they say in the jungle...." get me OUTTA here ". lol
On the news tonight, the mother said she was not getting paid by the sun, I stand corrected.
I think browns letter was written with good intentions, but it's backfired.

If you think this is bad wait until that public school boy twit Sun loving takes over in May/june,I respect Brown for taking his time in writing personally to the families of the lost soldiers i can assure you thats not the first time he has mispelled the condelence note,if you watched newsnight this evening Jeremy Paxman gave that mother a run for her time admitting that she was not responsible for recording the conversation, now you tell me who is trying to score points on the soldiers deaths...Shameful David and your spying childish newspaper shameful indeed

What I don't understand is why Brown, who must surely know by now that he is the most unpopular prime minister ever, continues to indulge himself in everyone's business. I'm sure everyone feels sorry every time a mother loses a son, but these things happen all day every day. The only reason for Brown to write a letter to this particular woman is because her son's death was in the public eye. Brown is jumping on every passing bandwagon now, never missing the opportunity to add his twopenny worth, but to try and make himself look good by using the death of this young chap is disgusting.
He has to go, and the sooner the better...

I actually think that as the son of a kirk minister he thinks the pastoral role is part of the actually have a pm with solid morals for once, and we just dismiss this fact
That, if you give it a little more thought, you will see simply does not wash. If Brown had decent morals he wouldn't have allowed us to be railroaded into a situation where we will become a part of an EU superstate governed by a motly bunch of foreign communist dinosaurs knowing the majority here are strongly against it, he would have brought the boys back home from Afghanistan years ago when it became obvious that this is a war we cannot win, he wouldn't have changed his mind about holding an early general election when it became obvious he would have lost, he would have stopped the Lockerbie bomber being free to go back to Lybia, he would have disolved parliament and either gone to the country or asked her majesty to demand the forming of an emergancy coalition government to see us through this unbelievable recession.
The very fact that he clings to power after taking Britain into it's bleakest era in recent history surely proves that he has the morals of a Columbian drugs barron.
He has got to go!

What a random reference! Albert Einstein was a theoretical astrophysicist and mathematician who mainly used individual letters and numbers in his calculations. I'm sure he was able to spell E=Mc2 without a problem, unless his first stab at the theory of relativity was M=Ec2.
My cat can't count - should I stop her from washing her whiskers?

All Brown is doing is carrying on the tradition that Blair and Thatcher did before him. I think he could have at least ensured that the letter was well written. The Sun may well be stirring up the whatsit in this case, just as they did to Johm Major's Government but it's a little harsh to include Cameron.
All politicians will revel in an opposition's embarrassment.
Well slurpy what has spelling gotta do with running a country first world or 3rd, or are you saying that people should be discriminated against for not being able to do something, i cant do maths, thats what calculators are for and i cant spell but use spell check!!
I have far more respect for Gordon Brown for actually putting pen to paper and attempting to put some feeling into the letter than if he had done it on a laptop, spell checked it and just signed the bottom, at least he tried and took the effort, unlike i am sure Blair who always got his PA to do it and just signed it!!
As your cat not being able to count but you not stopping it cleaning its whiskers why would you, why does it need to count to wash its whiskers, its like swinging heaven stopping someone from posting cos they are always wrong .........
Sorry Jumpotoit but apparently both Blair and Thatcher hand wrote letters of condolence, so Brown is merely carrying on that tradition.
I never mentioned Thatcher and Blair very rarely if ever sent a written letter, i know this as fact and at first hand.
However i am more disgusted that someone on this thread has made a joke out of dyslexia which is a medical disabillity and it and that person has not been removed, it is no different to being racist, and had it been a racist comment then it would have been dealt with.

I have dyslexia too - but I don't "suffer" from it, I use an old-fashioned thing called a dictionary. I take the trouble to ensure that what I write is legible and coherent because in my job it's extremely important.
Regarding Brown, have you never heard the phrase "lead by example"?
Yes slurpy i have, ever heard the term "people in glass house" and in my important job i just need my wits, compassion and humillity (prob spelt wrong as i donnt have a dictionary!) maybe you should look up those words whilst you have it out.
im dyslexic but a dictionary is of no use to me because i dont know if i have spelt words wrongly lol

And thats one of the biggest problems faced by people with dyslexia....
They dont know its spelt wrong because it looks right to them....

Very good point and thanks for furthering my point.... i never said i was intelligent either.
Surely, if Brown does suffer from dyslexia and has such appalling handwriting, then it would be much better to have the letter typed and for him to sign it. Let's be honest here, I'm sure the letters, handwritten or not, are formulaic. I can well understand how a grieving parent could take offence at what is percieved to be a badly written and slapdash letter of condolence.
BTW, I am not making excuses for the part that the Sun has played in this issue.
