Do you think this would be a good time for the Torys to call an election?
I think it would be. I think that Cleg and his crew would currently loose most of their seats because of the way they stood back and gave the Torys a free ride on the collage/tuition fee increases and now again they have stood back with the Torys veto
Seams to me the Lib Dems will do anything to cling onto their bit of power.
Add that to the fact that the right wing press have convinced much of the UK that Europe is a bad thing, if the Torys broke up the coalition now and had an election, I think they could win it hands down
What do you think?
Haven't the rules changed now Blue? I thought the PM can no longer call a General Election on a whim, it has to be the will of Parliament or following a majority no-confidence vote as a result of fixed term Parliaments.
Would be a bit like asking turkeys to vote for Christmas at this time, surely?
David Cameroon made a big thing about this Parliment being a five year deal.
Would be yet another broken promise if they held one now. So expect the voting papers any day soon !!!
John
yes you are correct gnv.
A motion of no confidence is passed in Her Majesty's Government by a simple majority and 14 days elapses without the House passing a confidence motion in any new Government formed
or
A motion for a general election is agreed by two thirds of the total number of seats in the Commons including vacant seats (currently 434 out of 650)
i think if cameron was to go to the polls, going by polls already been done i beleeve he would win a majority in his own right. if he could, would he take the gamble i wonder?
a bigger majority of brits are glad that for the first time in 20 yeers a british pm has told the french and the germans to go fuck themselves.
the snivelling clegg would sell his own mothers soul to be pm
i think cameron has done well and as a national newspaper stated today.
" thanks sarko. you may be a treacherous tin-pot tyrant and fake fair weather friend but you have done britain a huge favour.
now we will see the french in particular do everything in there power to exclude britain. we should have left them to sink after the second world war as without us they would now be nothing more than farmers sowing the land and certainly not some overpowered tin pot country dictating to us.
if it was me i would tell brussels and there unelected peeple there to go forth and feck off. trade with europe yes, to do anything else with europe no. and now brussels know that to.
cheers david and well done

What about some form of split in the coalition? could this lead to an election?
It was more hypothetical than what will actually happen

We are now being told that all our European Friends will do all they can to make our life difficult, if this is true, which I strongly suspect it is not, they were never friends in the first place!

they /were never our friends bluefish.
that is why the germans and the french were so dismayed at our refusal to join the euro. it would have been the final nail in our coffin where both of those countries would have ruined us once and for all.
the french have never been able to give us a proper fight and the germans are as always all mouth and trousers.
we are mega different from the rest of europe. we act different and sound different and our ways are certainly different. i would want us out unless it is to trade. no more interfeering from brussels. all that money we contribute every yeer, wow think of what we could do with that, because we certainly put a lot more in than we get out of it.
OMG
Last time it was calculated, in 2008, the European Union was costing us £65 billion gross every year. That's about £1,000 each every year for every man, woman and child in the UK. It increases every year, so it will be a lot more now.
This thread is gettin funnier n funnier.
Intersting, with a lack of any lib backbone all those Lib voters who didnt want a condem alliance with vote where? Either Labour or not to vote at all I guess but then people who are pissed off normally like to do something rather than nothing. An election now could go anyway the real suffers being the libs for sure. You could virtually ignore the polls. Yeh Cameron will get a lot of vocal support for standing up to europe but lets not forget that historically everytime any kind of poll or vote is held on europe its not ever cut and dried.
All that said .... wont happen anyway lol

i very much doubt that blue should the uk exit the European community the Germans and french stand to lose the most
could you imagine what taxes could be levied on just the car manufacturers as french and German cars make up 70% of all cars driven in the uk
Cameron is holding far more cards than anyone gives him credit for

why is it ben that most of what you say is nether constructive or helpful?
if you have nothing positive to add then add nothing. your not the only one that does this but you seem to be the most anoying at doing it.
are you and mr stageers the same person but with differant accounts by any chance? dunno

i agree on that point rob. he is nobodys fool mr cameron and those that think he is are i am sure in for a shock.
i dont like the whole europe thing. i am not european i am british. i want to stay british and i want out of europe as i see it benefits others more than it benefits us. the money we put into it is alarming.
they never gave us brits the referendum they all promised as they knew what the answer would be. out!
i think about 70% of brits would vote with cameron on this one, so he has the majorites vote
now would not be a good time to call an election for the Tories....lol
So many above seem to dislaike the ...yet you best remember this is the party that is holding you in office. Now yes in the next election, people will despair of them and not vote again for them. Most of the new votes they got were dis-affected labour voters. Do you really think they would now vote Tory ?
The country was left in a very poor state by the last labour government. No argument there. However the new Tory administration has just driven us further and further into the depths. We have not reduced borrowing...we have not the highest inflation figure in a decade.....we have the highest unemployment and rising in 20 years.....and you still think the Tory government will get a overall majority ?
The stance on Europe will backfire on us. It was highlighted today that a compromise was offered to the british, and it was open for further discussion. However we were not willing to discuss it....it was our way or no way !! We are totally isolated now from Europe. They are talking about reducing if not removing the British rebate !! When they are going to build a new car plant or manufacuring base.....where do you think it will be ? Well I can tell you where it won't be...Britain.
So no...there won't be an election....what we would end up with is a totally split parliment, as I don't think either of the two main parties would win an outright majority and the would be condemmed to no more than a handfull of seats.
to be honest dean i dislike them all
i doubt any move by any party in europe last week would not have been right so a no win situation really
interesting though is the fact that half of the 26 who signed the treaty are now reconsidering now they have realised exactly what they have done dunno
Blue,
as per the original question posed, Call an election now?
Why would any of them want to do so ?
- Tories coming in with a minority and having to form a coalition government, but with lower opionion poll figures than the last General Election
- Lib Dems with ratings 'through the floor' after Student Grants, etc.
- Labour, with their 'sparkling' leadership team and record, though marginally better poll ratings
Come on, have you heard any of them mention calling an Election or for a Vote of Confidence.
As some one said earlier, it would be like "Turkey's voting for Christmas"
Seems we are stuck with what was elected, whether you voted/agree with them or not, until the next disaster and some one realises they might garner sufficient support for
a) a vote of confidence to succeed
b) support from voters in a general election
Perhaps Nostrodamus was correct with 2012, predicting paint a bleak picture of massive destruction and havoc

I think every country in Europe could say that about themselves, not just Britain, and the fact we are different probably has something to do with the mess Europe is in at the moment.
Should an election be called now? No... a coalition government is the only way to see us through this mess. But no doubt the electorate will thank the government at the next election by voting in New Labour/Old Labour/New Old Labour/Old New Labour* to steer the country onto a course of financial ruin again.

There is no point having an election - just randomly pick names out of a hat. They are all as bad/ignorant/selfish/crooked as the each other. Any who start with a spark of honesty and humanity are either elbowed out or have to prostitute their standards on day 1 to even stay in the job.
