Another discussion heard on the radio today
My view is quite simply that many of the people at the top of this are crooks. A young lad I grew up with was taken in and fleeced by these people. Luckily after several years his family did get him back.
In 2007, while investigating the Church of Scientology for Panorama, reporter John Sweeney had a dramatic on-camera confrontation with a church spokesman named Tommy Davis. The church was accusing the reporter of bias and it attempted to stop the documentary from being broadcast
Blue,
was on news months ago
least they might get to broadcast now though
I really don't see the difference between any 'Church' and a cult. They all require far more to be given by the believer than what the organisation gives back.
Obviously I don't count the warm, fuzzy feeling members get cos that doesn't cost the organisation anything and is internally generated.

Agreed, but from what I can tell these will brain wash people into giving up all there worldly goods, family, friends, and previous way of life. Then forbid them from contacting anyone from there previous lives.

dunno It's the same for Nuns and Monks. They have to do all that - and give up sex too. But it's still wrong.

I would have to agree again, but I see quite a gap in the methods of recruitment used though

If my pastor banned me from using medicine, then turned to that same medicine secretly,as Hubbard did i would not be a member of my difference between a church and a cult is the intentions of the people involved said he was poor and wanted to start a religion to make money.

The difference between a cult and religion is the amount of sheep that follow it and the influence (money) they have in the halls of power
