Man of high principle or opportunistic turncoat?
Whether agree with his views / politics or not, it makes a welcome change for those concerned to stand down and force a by-election so that the people they are supposed to be elected to represent get a chance to agree or not.
In this case Clacton-on-Sea constituency agreed with him, so well done him.
Refreshing change and long may that approach continue.
As for Carswell, not my MP though disagree with his politics.
Might actually wake the other Parties up and get them outside the Westminster 'village/bubble' and think about policies that actually affect their voters and be responsible to their voters.
As for the main Parties, sadly believe we've a poor lot to select from so it's a case of trying to work out which is the least worst in recent General Elections.
Carswell is also not my MP and I would also not wish to be associated with his new political persuasion. However, just seven months before the general election, I suspect an element of striking while the iron' s hot is involved with his political epipheny. Were it the interests of his electoral flock he had at heart, surely he could have endured his 'enslavement' to the Tory whips that long and thus avoided grinding £200,000 of by-election costs from an already impoverished Tendring District.
