David Cameron: I will kill off safety culture
The Government is "waging war against the excessive health and safety culture that has become an albatross around the neck of British businesses", said the PM.
He added: "This coalition has a clear new year's resolution: to kill off the health and safety culture for good.

Wonderful news!

I think the clue is in the word 'excessive'.

I think you are probably correct foxy
Wonder if this will extend to D.C. walking from No 10 to Parliment as P.M.s did many years ago, or is taking his armoured limo part of the safety culture which will stay?

""The problem identified by the Government's own reviews is not the law, but rather, exaggerated fear of being sued, fed by aggressive marketing."
All the Con-Dem health and safety reviews have come up with the answer of.......it is not the law but the perception.
So to kill off the safety culture they have to make employers aware that their own wrong decisions are holding themselves back

Absolute total bullshit ....maybe he would like to tell us what Health and Safety rules he wished to dismiss. Maybe he thinks gaurds over saw blades are not required !! Maybe he feels people can walk up a ladder without it being secured first !! Maybe he doesn't want fire detection systems in a building !! Maybe he wants it so shops can sell food that has gone past its sell by date...oh I know even better get rid of the sell by date altogether, so we don't know how long its been there !!!
Come on Mr Cameron tell us what rules you wish to abolish !!! The Health and Safety exucutive constantly review rules. They update and extend some, and they relax others, as is neccessary.

I currently have two dead pheasants, hung in my shed, I have pulled all their feather out and can find no sell by date anywhere...... How shall I cope?

Or maybe, just maybe, he wants to lose the stupidity that exists, such as:

Culture Dean, culture..............not rules.
They tried the rule change and found there was hardly anything to change as they could not justify removing the law. So now they have hit on the idea of culture........and this is the problem as it is the employers that have allowed the culture to grow in their own companies. So basically it is the employers fault as the Councils and HSE have no control of an employers company

All of these are examples of misinterpretation of the law, rather than poor legislation. If we can work on the culture and stop employers being terrified of litigation all to the good. But the majority of the legislation is sound.

Common sense is as common as it used to be I'm afraid!

Hopefully Blue, being a country person, you would know how long you can hang a bird for before the meat becomes unpalatable. Townies are unaware of this and have to be told. The difference is in acquirement of knowledge.
Yep, and the employers that kill or maim their employees show that it is in very short supply
