Warning - politics thread!
Our beloved PM went to the European Parliament yesterday and instead of some kind of love-in with his mates was on the receiving end of two of the most passionate speeches I've ever seen. All the idiot could do in response was grin like an imbecilic buffoon.
When you see speeches like this it gives a few crumbs of hope to those who are paying for this man's ineptitude through our taxation that there is a real political opposition out there.
Danniel Hannan's speech:
Nigel Farage's speech
So with the Bank of England seemingly at war with Number 10 saying there is no money left in the pot, huge above-inflation council tax rises landing on our doormats this week, pay cuts/freezes for most and personal pensions in absolute meltdown this is going to be a defining year for Great Britain.
You are joking of course, these two are both anti Europe and are far right members of our political system.
Farage is the UKip MEP and would do anything to raise the UKip agenda and Hannan is on the far right of the tory party so is not exactly going to welcome Brown in any forum.
Typical right wing putting party politics before trying to support the country through these difficult times.
Seen it.
Very nice verbiage.
But, who landed us in this mess ?
Oh yes, it was the banks.
Run by inept morons who really should not have been in charge of a piggy bank. Most of who have no banking quals at all (although you could change the first letter to "W" and be nearer the mark).
I wonder who the bankers vote for ?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ! ?
That would not be labour I'm thinking.
And, unless my memory is wrong....we have a general election arriving next year....
Get the boot in guys, and keep-up the good banking !
err..because he was invited. Same as rest of euorpe is now following his lead. These two euro MPs are so right wing there own party are trying to get rid of them. Fact is....now is time to get behind policies in place....and to start talking up..and get ourselves out of this recession. I myself can already see the light at the end of the tunnel now. In April there is a massive public spending spree....this will stimulate the ecomomy and start to see us on the climb again.
Deano ...top marks for your efforts alas being positive is not sufficient to drag us out of this mess.
The light in the tunnel isn't the exit I'm afraid it's an explosion and the roofs caving in.
So Obama saying the other day that Brown and the Aussie prime minister (can't remember his name) were doing what the rest of the world should be doing is totally wrong then?
Believe me, the amount of claimants who will get nothing is massive. Plus, the forms are bigger (52 pages for employment support allowance + 18 pages for council tax benefit + 8 pages for housing benefit) (jobseekers is smaller, but so is the money).
Any saving over 16K means no benefit (and pension funds count) Redundancy pay counts as well (in many cases).
No, nobody is doing well, especially new claimants.
As for the "green shoots"...A new area of housing that was started last year, and halted as the recession started, has now been continued.
The auctions of repossed housing are benfiting the working immigrants, many of who are doing quite well in the recession.
Nobody is really losing much (except the little people  ). The banks, however much they moan, are doing quite well. The government is still drifting along as the civil servants await the return of their true masters (giggle).
Too bad it was only a "verbal" kicking.
