I am asking for assistance on behalf of our new EU citizens from Croatia.
Congratulations Croatia on joining the gravy train (sorry I mean EU)
They are going to need a lot of help when they start arriving here, 5O% of their youths are unemployed, inflation is running so high their basic currency is worthless, they are the poorest nation in the EU, their economy has been in recession for the last 5 years.
So can you help, do you know of accommodation they could rent (high or low rents assured payment by the DHSS)
Do you need your job ? could you retire so they could do it. (and for less salary than you ask)
Do you have any childrens clothing you could donate that we can send back to Croatia along with the child benefits children in Croatia will now be entitled to whilst their fathers are here working.
Do you want to earn some money out of them ? could you lend them your spare bedroom so you don't have to pay bedroom tax lol
In return YOU are now entitled to reap all the benefits of having Croatia in the EU, you can now trade with Croatia much easier than before, Croatian wine, lavender, ships, olive oil and blue water fish (yea Japan and Korea eat your hearts out new we can buy that fish off them easier than you can) are now much easier to obtain.
The UK thanks to the EU will be a much better place now we have Croatia, Latvia, Romania and Bulgaria dipping into (sorry I mean donating into) the EU coffers.
If I told you that the moon was made of cheese - would you believe me?... I am guessing that you wouldn't because to believe that the moon was made of cheese would make me (the storyteller) and you ( the believer) look really, really silly. There is nothing worse than being made to look and feel really silly by believing nonsense that has been made up by even sillier people.
The problem with all this Nationalistic drum beating is that it stirs the dumbest of all human emotions - the fear of people who are............. Different to us. The people who bring disease and pestilence and look and speak different to us as well as eating different food to us.

I welcome the people of Croatia that want to come here and work, I am not a hypocrite, my own partner is here from the EU member state of Lithuania, albeit she has been here more than 20 years and considers England her home and to whom she gives her loyalty.
You cannot blame the people of Croatia for wanting to improve their lives, you cannot blame them for exercising their rights to travel and work within the EU, but you can blame the EU politicians for expanding the EU membership at such financially unstable times with new nations that are even less stable than the EU and in bigger recession, you can blame the UK politicians for having us in this situation.
The people of Croatia who want to improve their lives would be stupid not to come here where there are more opportunities to do so, more jobs for them and more financial benefits.
The only reason the EU Politicians want these countries to join is because it gives them more power over more people.

I am just back from a fourth visit to Croatia in three years. The comments made in the post are insulting, ridiculous and simply grossly incorrect. This is stereotyping on a scale that the Nazi party would have been proud of - more so that the profiling bears no resemblance to reality.

Well he's not right about them being the poorest nation in the EU, nor is he right about their currency being worthless, nor about their inflation running so high to cause their currency to be worthless. I would also question the accuracy of his claim regarding the youth unemployment rate.
I don't for a second think that the whole population of will up sticks and head here, and compared with Poland with a population of 38million souls, Croatia at just over 4million souls is less likely to produce so many migrants, but Polish is the UKs second language now with over half a million Poles living here. Even ignoring that the UK might appear more appealing to Croats than it does to Poles the same % of population migrating here from Croatia will simply bring more pressure on the UK job market and financial areas such as the NHS, we would be stupid if we did not consider the downside of Croatia's entry to the EU as well as any upside.
Another problem with large scale immigration is the seedier side, ask any Policeman how much organised crime traces back to Albanians, how many Romanian prostitutes are now working in the UK and so on, we are lucky with the Polish, we seem, for the most part to get the hard working ones but that is not always the case with all the new EU entry countries.
I am a realist and look at both sides of the EU expansion.
For me it has been a bad day, I read the Sun newspaper, I found Croatia had joined the EU and now your telling me the moon is not made of cheese, for gods sake cut me some slack here lol

Poorest EU state = Bulgaria (Based on the GDP)
Yes the Sun Newspaper gave me incorrect information on this, Croatia is the 2nd poorest Nation in the EU (based on the GDP)
QUOTE
the GDP and the GDP (PPP) per capita for the European Union and for each of its 27 member states, sorted by GDP (PPP). This can be used as a rough gauge to the relative standards of living among member states, with Luxembourg the highest and Bulgaria the lowest. Eurostat, based in Luxembourg, is the Official Statistical Office of the European Communities releasing yearly GDP figures for the member states as well as the EU as a whole, which are regularly updated, supporting this way a measure of wealth and a base for the European Union's budgetary and economic policies. Figures are stated in euro.
UNQUOTE
Bulgaria has a GDP of whereas Croatia has a GDP of , Luxemburg has the highest GDP at followed by Austria at , the UK has a GDP of similar to that of Germany, Holland, France, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark etc.
Inflation in Croatia
Inflation is current rising rapidly and in April 2013 is currently 5.9% compared with 2.9% in April 2012.
As bad as things are in the UK our inflation rate in May was 2.7%
The average Salary in Croatia is 974eu per month compared with 2303eu in the UK, putting that into perspective, it is better than Bulgaria, Romania and Latvia and a lot better than Albania at 294eu per month, but could that be a factor in why we are getting a large proportion of the criminals from Latvia, Romania and Albania ?
A loaf or bread or a pint of milk in Croatia will cost you 68p, not bad if your earning UK wages but expensive if your earning less than half of what you can earn in the UK.
After tax the average Croatian has around £568 of disposable income, in the UK the average person has around
What on earth are you trying to prove?
You are just being jingoistic and alarmist - are you the new voice of the Daily Mail on Swinging Heaven looking to scare us all to death with apocalyptic assumptions?
There is as much, if not more, youth unemployment in Spain and Greece why are we not preparing to fight off the hordes of young Spanish arriving at the borders? They talk funny too you know, just a different kind of funny to Croatians - they eat smelly food too.
I am not trying to prove anything just putting some statistics to what people have questioned, I am confused now, people ask questions and now it is wrong to answer them or put the statistics behind what I said dunno
Spain has been a member of the EU for some time and when they joined things in Spain looked much rosier than they do now, like the rest of the states that joined in the early days, I am talking about the EU allowing a lot of Eastern European nations to join the common market (as it was invented to be) when they have so little to offer.
The EU concept was sold to us as a Common Market, where selling your products abroad would be much easier, where buying from abroad would be much easier, where as a large group we could compete with the likes of the USA, China, USSR, Korea and India, a place where regulations would make prices all over Europe much fairer to everyone, you would get the same price for your carrots as any other Nation in the EU, you would still control your own Nation but when it came to buying and selling the playing field would be level.
How all that has changed, do you think we can sell bread and milk to a nation where it is already cheaper and where the people of that Nation do not have half the income (or costs) that we do.
What will change now that Croatia is part of the EU, we can holiday there easier with a EU passport, I don't think the small % of goods we import for them will get any cheaper, I don't think they will be any easier to obtain.
Am I so wrong in thinking that having ANY Nation join the EU should be looked at in a "what can we gain from this - what might we lose from this" point of view.
As I said, it is just the EU Politicians wanting more power over more people.
I would love to hear the reasons why people believe opening the EU doors to Bulgaria, Latvia, Croatia, Lithuania, Romania and the others is a good thing and what we have gained by it because I genuinely do not know.
I can however think of the downside.
We have hammered the European argument so many times before on here. Are we starting it again?
Why not wait until a bit nearer the next election. So far if you want a really grown up debate about Europe, you are going to have to vote Conservative as they are the only ones promising a referendum.
By the way, we holiday every year in Croatia in Spring and I have a number of Croatian friends on Facebook. I sent them your original post and they found it very difficult to connect the Britain and many Brits that they know, with the things that you wrote. The wife of my friend was really quite upset and she called it "ignorant arrogance."

I'm sure that the people you know in Croatia are fine people they probably have a good job and a decent standard of education.
But lets turn that round a bit.
Imagine the UK had Croatia's economy and Croatia had the UKs economy. If you were wanting to move from the UK to Croatia, then with your skills and enterprise, you'd probably do well there. But imagine if instead of you the people from the (fictional) Chatsworth estate (Shameless) decided to trot off to Croatia, do you think that Croatia would welcome them ?
That's the perceived problem here, we assume, based on previous experiences, that we're more likely to get the crew from the Chatsworth estate than someone like you Hot.

And that is not scare mongering, that is not panicking that is not wild thoughts that is how things have gone with the other poorer nations of Eastern Europe, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania have given us prostitutes, credit card fraudsters, product fraudsters and organised criminals. I am not saying that all the Czechs or Polish here are models citizens but many of them are, they have jobs and pay taxes.

The same source that you use for the unemployment rates states the inflation rate at May 2013 as being 1.8%, less than the Uk. Both Bulgaria and Romania are poorer than Croatia. Their currency has been pegged to the Euro for several years and is far from worthless.
It is likely that most EU members states will impose similar restrictions on workers from Croatia to those imposed on Romanian and Bulgarian workers before they joined the EU in 2007 where they have to wait up until 7 years before restrictions were removed.
See now why do I have to rely on the likes of Max and other forum users to find out things like the 7 year rule, no wonder I don't normally read the papers, they create the problems by reporting only half the news, at least I we won't see the problem for 7 years and by then I predict we won't be EU members anyway lol
