The Spanish resort of Salou, on the Costa Daurada south of Barcelona, has becoome the first to ban shirtless and bikini-clad tourists in a bid to clean up it's image.
Prudes ?
Well, apparently this is in response to the annual excess of Saloufest, the British University sports clubs annual Easter party, where reports of 'streets running with vomit', scantily clad students in all night binge drinkinging and indulging in other 'anti-social' behaviour has finally proven too much for the town.
New local by-laws for those who flout the ban on the dress code, away from beach front bars and restauraunts, will result in a fines between 100 Euros (circa £80) and 300 euro (circa £250).
Additionally tose caught drinking alcohol on the street or having sex on the beach will also be prosecuted.
Something you would support, either in Spain or your holiday destination this year ?
If not, why not ?
(Yes says Poll and on to support as to why Poll not working yet, so please pop back later)

Party or just a general piss up, and foul antics?
I have been to Salou and it is very much a family resort. I would not have wanted to take my kids there with drunken yobs roaming and puking everywhere.
Why is it always the British youngsters who behave this way?
The 18-30 club promotes these kinds of antics, in fact it encourages the drunken games and the sex.
You can nearly always tell which ones are the Brits on the beach....lager, tats and big beer bellies....with mrs chav by his side. Obviously that is not the normal Brit who goes abroad but when you spot one you just know they are from England.
I do not think they are being prudish when youngsters behave in the way they do when abroad....they have done something similar in Greece too.
If these twats behaved properly I am sure this new law would not have been necessary.
What is it with the Brits and booze abroad? The Spanish do not have to put up with this rubbish and I feel the fines should be higher, because the only thing these idiots understand is how much is it going to cost them.
Over here a lot of city centers do not tolerate drinking on the streets and the council together with the police enforce around my way.
Kent
Never been to the place and agree with 18-30 (that IQ range ? lol ) antics, however Saloufest is UK Universities, so if to be believed the top 5% of the educated
Agree with most 'Brits abroad' being easily sighted and therefore avoided, mind you same goes for most Americans you see on holiday, Japanese, etc.

Not many Yanks actually go to Spain.
The resort is a lovely place and it is called the Golden coast because it has miles of sandy beaches...littered with drunken Brits at night no doubt now.
When we went as a family in about 1992 it was a lovely place, but then again no doubt was Ibiza town at some point in the past until the Brits invaded.
The Uni people are sometimes the worse behaved out of all of them...remember the uni tosser who pissed up a war memorial? On here that called it a bit of high jinks, nothing to worry about in the wider scheme of things. Yes then that kind of idiot is the kind that pukes up in the street on holiday with his shorts dangling around his knees showing his big fat hairy arse.
Nice if you have your kids with you?
If they commit serious crimes abroad the authorities should be allowed to confiscate their passports for a few years, they won't be doing that abroad in a hurry.
What has happened over the last few years is that it is just not confined to boys, the girls in many cases are just as bad, and in many cases worse. I bet their parents are well proud of them.innocent
well....have to put my cards on the table...and say I went with 18-30's for 10 years. I had a fantastic time. Yes alot of it was drink aimed......but the whole idea was that the Hotel was all 18-30 and so you could not upset anyone by coming in at 3am and makeing a noise..indeed...if you did come in at 3am..you would probably have been the first in.
Now if its a family resort, I can understand, that the people do not want these people and their ilk around them. However I would again say..that when I was there..we tended to only go out at midnight anyway....just as the family people were coming in !! Most of the areas, are designated strips, of bars and clubs. You know what you going to face if you there. May I also add....no way is it just a British thing. Plenty of Germans and Swedish everytime I went.
I think its fine if a resort wishes to promote itself as family resort. Then by all means bring in stricter rules and laws. However, the bar owners probably won't be over happy. They make alot of money out of the drinking. They also help promote it with happy hours..and free shots etc etc.....Indeed the salou fest ..was actively encouraged by all the bars in salou.
So...lets all remember we were all young once..and we all used to get so drunk we couldn't walk...( well i did anyway) ..and it was all part of growing up..and learning. I would never do it again...but god I had a bloody loved it, at the time.

Dean,
Agree all young once and all like to enjoy life.
Believe the by-laws aimed at dress code away from the beach front and the sex on the beach & stagger around town centre with a bottle of booze in hand brigade.
From what I've read locally, then the majority of bar owners seem to agree with the new by-laws.
Mind you what has got them all uppity now is the latest Spanish government talk of total smoking ban, like UK, just 4 years after all cost associated with designated smoking and non-smoking areas in all establishments over 100 customers.
Try it in Brighton and see how fast you end-up pouring your drink down the drain.

I'm very happy with 'cover up' rules. It means I don't have to choose between standing out or exposing my 'orrible body to inspection. :giggle:
But I also agree in essence. You get people exploring towns near to their resort, dressed as they would be in the resort. If we translate it back to the UK. Would you walk down Oxford street - or around St Paul's - in a bikini and flip flops? I know we're not (thank goodness) as hung up on what is proper attire and what isn't as we once were. But the fact is, some places can take bikini-clad bods and some can't.
