The Spanish resort of Salou, on the Costa Daurada south of Barcelona, has becoome the first to ban shirtless and bikini-clad tourists in a bid to clean up it's image.
Prudes ?
Well, apparently this is in response to the annual excess of Saloufest, the British University sports clubs annual Easter party, where reports of 'streets running with vomit', scantily clad students in all night binge drinkinging and indulging in other 'anti-social' behaviour has finally proven too much for the town.
New local by-laws for those who flout the ban on the dress code, away from beach front bars and restauraunts, will result in a fines between 100 Euros (circa £80) and 300 euro (circa £250).
Additionally tose caught drinking alcohol on the street or having sex on the beach will also be prosecuted.
Something you would support, either in Spain or your holiday destination this year ?
If not, why not ?
(Yes says Poll and on to support as to why Poll not working yet, so please pop back later)
well....have to put my cards on the table...and say I went with 18-30's for 10 years. I had a fantastic time. Yes alot of it was drink aimed......but the whole idea was that the Hotel was all 18-30 and so you could not upset anyone by coming in at 3am and makeing a noise..indeed...if you did come in at 3am..you would probably have been the first in.
Now if its a family resort, I can understand, that the people do not want these people and their ilk around them. However I would again say..that when I was there..we tended to only go out at midnight anyway....just as the family people were coming in !! Most of the areas, are designated strips, of bars and clubs. You know what you going to face if you there. May I also add....no way is it just a British thing. Plenty of Germans and Swedish everytime I went.
I think its fine if a resort wishes to promote itself as family resort. Then by all means bring in stricter rules and laws. However, the bar owners probably won't be over happy. They make alot of money out of the drinking. They also help promote it with happy hours..and free shots etc etc.....Indeed the salou fest ..was actively encouraged by all the bars in salou.
So...lets all remember we were all young once..and we all used to get so drunk we couldn't walk...( well i did anyway) ..and it was all part of growing up..and learning. I would never do it again...but god I had a bloody loved it, at the time.
Try it in Brighton and see how fast you end-up pouring your drink down the drain.
and your point is what?
their land respect or stay home and dont give a feck .. as seems to be the norm fot the uk theese days grrrrrrrrrrrr
this is why i don`t do the med
I'm very happy with 'cover up' rules. It means I don't have to choose between standing out or exposing my 'orrible body to inspection. :giggle:
But I also agree in essence. You get people exploring towns near to their resort, dressed as they would be in the resort. If we translate it back to the UK. Would you walk down Oxford street - or around St Paul's - in a bikini and flip flops? I know we're not (thank goodness) as hung up on what is proper attire and what isn't as we once were. But the fact is, some places can take bikini-clad bods and some can't.
