I think the church can be blamed for a lot of this.
I hate religion as it causes more problems than anything else in the world.
The Catholics change the goalposts to suit, as no doubt most do...not all.
If you look at the churches take on homosexuality it is hugely negative.
For me I am not really is not something I tend to think about too much if honest.
I know a few gay guys, but the fact they are gay has no bearing on my like of them.
Yes it should be and no doubt is discussed in schools, but at the right age to do so. Hetrosexuality is still the " norm " and that is how it should be taught in schools, not as in some where they seem to teach it above hetrosexuality.
But live and let live like with most things, we are in the 21st century now, not the 18th.
I do not think the ideals of the BNP are minor at all.
As I previously stated no religious group should comment on peoples sexuality. Muslim, Christian, Hinduism etc they are all as bad as each other in my eyes.
I dont care what happens in Saudi Arabia or indeed the Muslim opinion of homosexuality, that is there belief and just like you or i they are entitled to it!
Many muslims living in this country were born here and are indeed british, they are entitled to have there faith and its views, just like a catholic or christian who were also born here, the muslims here may believe homosexuality is wrong but i am yet to witness any stonings to death?!?!?
Homosexuals may get stoned to death in Saudi Arabia and that is the right of that country and a very old law, who are we to argue about it and comment, after all we give convicted paedophiles 2 year jail terms here yet in Saudi this is also punishable by death, i bet many would not complain if we took the same route here on that one, people are very quick to jump to the defense of our own laws when they are questioned by other religions or nationalities yet then slate others for there laws and beliefs.
I am also going to say that anyone who can not see that Nick Griffin is a complete racist, homophobic neanderthal might need serious psychiatric help!
I am a white working class fella of 37 i have very close muslim friends and colleagues and my 2 best friends are gay and indeed married via civil partnership i however believe that people are entitled to both there religious and moral beliefs.
As for the comment by slurpysarah about sorting the "muslim" problem i assume you are a BNP supporter and would send them back to where they came from.............? Where is that exactly?
But jumptoit some people do care what happens to minorities in other countries. The mentality of "not in my backyard" is not conducive to the well being of humankind.
As I said in my statement if the stoning of people who are gay is true, it used to be it isn't any more and thankfully due to liberal groups like Amnesty International peoples views in these countries are changing.
Having a faith,a belief and a view is the freedom of speech but you can not use that to instigate violence or persecute people!
No so instead we will force our beliefs and morals (lack of included) on them and tell them everything they believe is wrong and not to believe what has been taught for centuries in their books.
Dont even start me on "human rights" this is yet another act thought up by the "wishywashes" which has gone way too far and is just a joke.
I mean thanks to the "human rights" act prison warders now have to wear trainers at night instead of more suitable footwear because it may wake the rapists, murderers, paedos etc up and heaven forbid they dont get a full 8 hours sleep after what the poor bunnies have been through!
Back on topic homophobia is as a concept as ridiculous as agrophobia aracnophobia or any other phobia,it's there in the word....phobia's are irrational fears.
Muslim homophobia is a rascist red herring....yes many muslim countries have laws outlawing homosexuality the same countries have to a large extent spent thousands of years refining and its who has read T.H. Lawrence or even seen the film Lawrence of Arabia ffs can plainly see that whilst homosexuality is officially frowned upon and heterosexual marriage expected ,once ones duty as a husband was/is fulfilled a gay relationship is perfectly acceptable and often encouraged....muslims like anyone else are perfectly capable of bending the rules for the sake of convenience.
Yes I know Lawrence of Arabia is a bad example but to be frank I really can't be bothered to carry out anymore research to counter anyones ridiculous spiteful bigotry.
Why is it that people HAVE to conform??
Mt parents would never ever except that, certainly not my Father. Ok he may well be homophobic, but he is from a generation that found that disgusting, as did their parents.
Now people want to FORCE their views on others, whatever that maybe.
If people think that homosexuality is wrong, then surely that is their right to think so?
Why is it that society now wants to vilify people who do not conform?
I have already stated MY opinions on homosexuality, but cannot understand why people force their beliefs onto others.
Freedom of speech is a right, but with these rights come responsibility not to oppress others. You may find two men kissing not to your personal taste but as long as you are not declaring that they can't do it or treating them differently for doing it then it's simply about your personal taste. I am sure there are many gay men who find a man and women kissing to be not to their taste too.
Homophobia does still exist. We still live in a society where people are attacked and even murdered because someone does not like their sexuality. This is fundamentaly wrong and a damning inditement on the society that we live in.
I believe that issues such as gender, race and sexuality should be covered in schools and from an early age which will help to combat the prejudices of society that children are exposed to as they get older. Very young children don't 'see' the colour of someones skin, their gender etc, they simply see people, their friends. It is society, parents, family influences etc that begin to breed into them hatred and intolerence.
Yes previous generations may be less accepting of homosexuality, but ones before that thought that black people should walk on the other side of the road, that women should be seen and not heard, that only the rich should vote and that that the world was flat and the wheel and fire were the epitomy of modern technology! Times change and society moves on. Gone are the days when a black person has to give up their seat to a white person on a bus. We even a black man as president of the USA. Somethings that was completely unimaginable only a generation ago.
By educating people we can change society, creating a more tolerant and accepting culture and ensuring that in future generations people are free to be who they are without fear or oppression.
I would shag captain jack no question.
I dont like wishy washy words like homophobia.
To me this kinda thing is all about hatred directed to people who are not part of your "crowd" for whatever reason. Sexuality is just one reason, race, social status, relative wealth , the list is endless. I dont know why some folk hate those who are different just as i dont know why some folk dont. Frankly it baffles me and I dont have any solutions.
As a teenager at school I was surrounded by racist homophobic (whats the word for people who hate the poor) people but my teenage son and daughters peer groups seem to be far more tolerant and accepting. I think thats a good sign.
I am honestly shocked at some of the views recently expressed in this forum.
I really did think as a society we had moved on; we were more educated and therefore more tolerant and accepting, of people differant to ourselves. What next, you want to ban people with down sydrome because the look and act differant to you.
I have no problem with two people of whatever colour, sexual origination expresing love for each other. Damn sight better than seeing, two people express hated and kick two barrels of shit out of each other, which can be seen regular on a saturday evening, in alot of big cities.
We are all differant from each other, in differant ways.
Lets celebrate our diversity and orginality
