A survey of Hotels and Guest Houses that I would appreciate your help with.
What do you expect from a Hotel and Guest House as basic facilities ?
What do they fail to supply that you would like to have available ?
What do they get wrong too often ?
and on a positive side ......
What do you like about them ?
What do you think constitutes "going above and beyond"
What do you think are an unexpected luxury that you love to find in your room or the hotel ?
What would you expect to pay for an average hotel and Guest House room that provides the things you expect, for the night ?
Do you prefer to have breakfast as an optonal extra or included in the price ?
My own preferences are :-
What do you expect from a Hotel/Guest House as basic facilities ?
Clean, Free Wifi, Free parking, adequate courtesy facilities (tea, coffee, milk, toiletries) free towel exchange at anytime, decent TV service and screen size.
What do they fail to supply that you would like to have available ?
Usually the above or only as added paid for extras
What do they get wrong too often ?
Usually the above and inadequate information on thier websites, paper thin walls, inadequate choice at breakfast
and on a positive side ......
What do you like about them ?
ease of access to the area I am visiting, clean, comfortable, good facilities in the ones that have the basics I mentioned.
What do you think constitutes "going above and beyond"
Had some great breakfasts that are definetely above and beyond.
What do you think are an unexpected luxury that you have found or would love to find in your room or the hotel ?
Pillow choccies, courtesy drinks, superior courtesy pack, bath and shower facilities
What would you expect to pay for an average hotel room that provides the things you expect, for the night ?
£60 guest house, £75 - £100 Hotel(at the top end I would expect hotel to have leisure facilities like restaurant, bar, pool and gym.
Do you prefer to have breakfast as an optonal extra or included in the price ?
Inclusive
Just curious, where has this come from and whats it for dunno

Free market research :dunno:
Hotel
Clean,
secure,
efficient, unobtrusive staff
everything works
good firm-hard bed,
powerful, hot shower AND deep bath,
free parking.
free wi-fi.
Coffee/tea making facility in the room with unlimited supplies.
Nice to have - iron and board, soaps etc, any free snacks (obviously)
Guest house
Clean,
secure,
efficient, friendly staff
good firm-hard bed
powerful, hot shower OR deep bath
off-road parking
free wi-fi.
Coffee/tea making facility in the room with unlimited supplies.
For work trips - hotel is minimum.
For holidays - frankly I'd rather have a cottage.
Fantasy land - a concierge that can find me a hot and ready 6 foot black guy at 10 minute's notice. (or a concierge that IS a hot and ready etc etc etc :gigglesmile
How can you say you don't use the other forum if you are in fact reading it? Surely that constitutes using it?
Anyway as far as basic facilities go:
Tea and coffee making facilities, and plenty of top ups on request. A TV signal. free parking and cleanliness.

OK I use the other sites forums lol but have not posted any comment on them for over 3 years, I do read the topics and threads about once every couple of months, usually when I have clicked on the forums page by accicent.
it all sounds like market research on the cheap to me mids, come on own up!
Is there anything wrong with doing market research ? yes I own a guest house, I specialise in looking after swingers, we only accept swingers visiting local swingers clubs as guests, so to find out what I can do to make thier stay better seems like good sense to me, but I did want to do it without leaving myself open to accusations of using the forums to advertise, the forum post does exist on fabswingers that made me think of finding out more, I have not posted on that forum as many will see being like me, a member of many sites.
If I can learn from the people on this site who are willing to post then I only see that as a good thing for me and for future guests. How we cater for our guests does differ from average guest houses and we do need to have the basic needs in place and like many other guest houses cater for the special needs of thier target market at the same time, I don't think it would be as helpfull for me to do my research on Twitter or Facebook etc since some of the facilities we provide would not suit all guest houses.
So forced out of the closet, I can also ask
Is there anything you would like to find available at a guest house catering for swingers visiting local clubs lol

Ask your guests then dunno
A brief questionnaire in the room would have sufficed I'd have thought...

well in that case i would expect fresh cotton sheets the room to smell fragranced and well aired and of course a good supply of in-date condoms in the draw (all sizes please)

forced out of the closet

Not for the first time eh?poke
But seriously I cant see how you could be accused of advertising a business when you haven't said where it is or what its called. If i wanted to book a room now I would have no idea how to, because I don't even have the phone number.
I do think that a bit of free market research isn't a bad idea though, but honesty is the best policy smile
Stick a questionnaire in every room and look for trends over a period of time. You could also try out the opposition for a night and see how somebody else does it. Although given your particular target market I don't think you should go on channel 4's four in a bed!:undecided:

But there is nowt so funny as folk and on here history has proved that no matter what you say someone will use it as an excuse to have a go, thankfully those that do are in the minority

In truth I was honest, I did say I had seen it on another site and wanted to know what others thought, the reason why I would want to know isn't really important.

I have been so tempted to go on 4 in a bed  but your right and not all publicity is good publicity, the privacy of the guests who do stay here is more important than "sticking it up the straights"
As for the questionaire, not a bad idea but it doesn't seem to work, on our website we have a page for guests to leave comments and we do ask people who stay here, we get some feedback when we do ask but people tend to be polite and we don't always feel they would tell us if they thought something was wrong, swingers are different to weirdos that don't swing when it comes to staying at a guest house/hotel, they are so much nicer.
We have had our guest house for over 8 years albeit in different locations servicing different clubs so we are not novices but anyone can learn anytime

Perhaps if I take this from a different angle then.
Our rooms are equipped with
large flat screen TV's
DVD Players
Trouser Press
Iron and Board
Hairdryer
Hair straighteners
Tea/Coffee/Hot Chocolate making facilities with ample supplies replenished on request
Fresh milk is supplied in half pint pre-chilled thermos flasks.
Courtesy Pack which includes (Razor, toothbrushes, Shoe shine kit, Linx Deoderant, Impulse deoderant, Shampoo, Shower Gel, Body lotion, Antiseptic waterless Gel soap, sewing kit, 1st aid kit)
Box of chocolates on pillows
Ceiling fans
We supply the Biggest choice breakfast in the UK included in the price and cooked and served to order from 6am to 6pm daily.
We provide free courtesy transport to and from the club of your choice.
We have a full evening meal menu from simple options to 3 course meals
We provide a 24 hour hot and cold snack menu
We have smoking and non-smoking rooms
We have multi night stay package prices and special occasion options for celebrations such as Champagne packages, romantic weekend packages.
We have a website with all details and pictures of each room for people to see before they book.
So what improvements can we make ?
We do have links to our website in the Clubs section on some other sites but not on this one, (there was no response to our request to be added to the Clubs page so I will not reply to any mails requesting bookings or information about the guest house as this would be wrong and we are here to enjoy the site and the people we meet at our home, we would not like to lose that opportunity, when we do meet people from here it is at our home not our guest house lol

I'll answer now, I have never and don't think I will ever use a guest house confused
I think its just become habit to book one of the standard flat rate hotels that we all know. I know what I'm getting for my money and I always think a guest house would be more expensive. Not too sure why I think that though!
I always find I'm either not in a hotel long enough to worry about any extra's or I'm there for the 'extras'
Now that makes a lot of sense.
Guest houses don't suit everyone and I have to admit that we use both depending on what we are doing, for example we go to parties in Leeds occasionally and we go to Xotix Xtreme in Derby.
Now when we go to the parties which are on a Saturday night we make a weekend of it, we stay at the Village Hotel in Leeds on Fri, Sat and Sun, we love the facilities for a weekend break, ie Swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna etc, the on site restaurant, excellent breakfast and bar meal options all under one roof, rates are reasonable for what they provide.
We occasionally make a weekend of it when going to Xotix but that is just an hour away and most of the time we just drive there and back, last time we made it a weekend break we stayed at the Ramada in Derby, to be honest we were not impressed, as Xotix is actually in Heanor Derby it is not far from the Village Hotel Nottingham so next time we weekend it we will book in at the Village.
If we are going to Blackpool or somewhere like that where we plan to be out of the hotel more than it it we do like a nice family B&B, they are normally (but not always) cheaper than hotels and since we wont be inside much find them very acceptable.
