So then, the so called 'land of the free' have shown just how sensitive they are to human rights.
1. Bradley Manning
This guy tells the world in pictures how the US Military shot down in a cold blooded murder a number of civilians in Iraq in 2007. No charges yet against the perpetrators (after 6 years) but no doubt a life in prison for poor Bradley, whether misguided or not.
2. American Student
An American student was banged up for four and a half days in a detention centre without food or water following a drugs bust in which, later, he was found not to have been implicated.
He nearly died.
He has sued the establishment and has been awarded $ equating to a $1m per day for each day of his incarceration.
What right do they have to lecture others on human rights issues?
bradley manning signed the official secrets act to never release or talk about informations which could be sensitive and could aid the enemy.
he was of sound mind when he made the decision to sign the document.
he broke the rules of his employment and will be punished for that.
doesnt matter if you have sympathy for him.
he knew the rules. if he didnt want to read or see that sort of top level information he should never have taken the job.
people have be protected from terrorist outrages on these shores because of work and information the secret services obtain.
that is why they are called secret.
whether you agree or disagree with intervention in other lands is irrelevant.
he knew is job, knew the complexity of his job and the sensitive informations he was able to see.
britain, united states and many other countries have killed civilians in many conflicts so that is no argument.
What is wrong is the way that the American establishment have sought to cover up this cold blooded murder and have done nothing to prosecute to the full extent of the law, those who were responsible but to vindictively 'seek justice' against the poor unfortunate individual who brought it out in the open.
I do realise that two wrongs don't make a right but the way the American military have covered this up - like they have so many other 'collateral' incidents - deserves to be told so that people can judge for themselves their record on human rights.
Bradley Manning may well have brached the rules of his engagement but sometimes, someone has to make a stand and the American people - as indeed the whole world - now know the truth about this one incident at least.
This is nothing to do with protecting Americans from terror, this is everything to do with a lying and cheating nation which is dishonest to the core whilst it damns peoples from other nations for far less.
I am livid at the Peerage in this country.
bringing it back on to topic with regards "Human Rights, My Arse" though...
I appreciate that he signed the OSA, still the severity of the punishment doesn't fit the crime.
But I suppose embarrassment is high up on the list of emotions that America doesn't like to feel!
They have a penal system based on retribution and revenge...that is not a good basis for a modern and progressive society!
Boring nonsense.
By all means start another thread and I will enlighten you as to why I think it is a national disgrace that both Sarah Payne and in particular Denise Bulger have been ignored, whilst Doreen Lawrence gets gifted a Peerage by the monster raving Labour party, and the real reasons behind it.
