I'm a bit fed up of shaving rashes, pain from waxing and epilation and burns from hair removal creams so am thinking of investing in a home IPL (intense pulsed light) hair removal system.
They're quite pricey and I'd rather not spend money on something that doesn't work, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on one that does??
I know that people have mentioned in here before about salon IPL treatments but I think it would be more cost effective to buy my own for anywhere between £150 - £300 rather than pay out for treatments at £60 a pop.
Funs,
a friend swears by hers
I dished out £130 every six weeks (x6) for laser treatment to do my underarms and my ladybits..and I don't mean just bikini area..i'm talking LADYBITS!!!!!! :eeek:
It hurt like a muther udder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nearly kicked the therapist in the face once..but now..ask me when was the last time I shaved?..ermm..hmm...last..umm..
I have not tried home ones before but I did try cheaper sessions at a different salon and it was much less painful- couple of years back- it didn't work.
So my conclusion is, for permanent effective results..fork out some ££ and go industrial strength..preferably somewhere recommended. You will love the results!
Did I mention it HURT LIKE F*CK!

I have it on very good authority from a source close to me that the pain is like having an elastic band pinged against your skin, but once it's done it subsides very quickly. However I can attest to the fact that it seems to be worth the effort. ;)

how i like to describe it to a guy is..elastic band with a sharp pin set on fire THEN pinged repeatedly against your baubles!
But yes, so worth it.

Be very careful who you tell - there are some guys who'd probably really enjoy that! :scared:
;)
Not worth spending the money on a home IPL system then?

Wife had her bits done professionally at a skin clinic and then we bought a home sysytem to keep on top of it.
Think you need to spend a few quid up front and get a good starting point, the home ones seem to be weaker but probably OK on weak ready zapped hair follicles that are trying to come back.
Dunno if that is scientific but that's how it seems.
black and decker sander and grade 60 paper.
hurts like hell but nothing grows back lol

I know that hair removal is a subject close to many SH forumites (Warwick, please step forward and take a bow) and as I've turned 40 and appear to be morphing into Mr Tumnus, its something I seem to be investing more time in, IPL seems like the way to go.
Miss Very - would be interested to hear your recommendation on a good place as I suspect they do vary quite a bit.
Also did you launch straight into having your front garden done or did you start with the pits and work down?

Oh I launched straight into it! Pits are no worries to me, used to wax for years and I can handle the pain there easily. As for the moomoo and the bum well.. :eeek: eeeeaaAAAaaaaooooUUUUuuuchhh!!
My recommendation is south west london based- So if you're ok to travel there once every 6 weeks I can PM you her details!
First place I went to, a beauty salon, it hurt a lot! But still kinda bearable-ish.
And as I said, results were "meh".
Second lady came recommended by a friend. And that's all she does! She is brilliant and makes you feel super comfortable and at ease especially when she's zapping the poor tender petals..yes it was THAT close a zap! But now..hardly ever shave!
Oh and should mention, this treatment works best on dark hair. The therapist was honest enough to tell my blonde friend she would be wasting her money..
OT and perhaps a weird question but... how do you know you'll never miss that hair? It's a permanent body modification yet people don't seem to mind at all?

Why would you try IPL hair removeal with something thats obviously meant to be shuved up you anus?
Don't bother. Spent nearly £500 on a home IPL kit. It hurts like a bugger and is a complete pain. Takes forever to do a single treatment and hubby had enough by the second week so it's never seen the light of day since.
I'd say get the home kit and invest in some other BDSM kit, if it doesn't work you could turn Pro Dominatrix to at least get your money back.
Just a thought !

Nothing is permanent and eventually it does grow back hence the need to top up. Difference is though the hairs that come back initially are very fine and whispy.

Lasers are not meant to be used on olive and dark skin. Lucky you didn't scar yourself for life. If you have a pale skin and dark hair that is best for a laser treatment.
im having my back, chest and all the bits waxed for charity.
im looking forward to it and the money raised will ease any pain.
bring it on lol
