Unempoyment is never a price worth paying (unless David Cameron and his mates are the ones signing on) !!

I am selfish enough to find that someone else being made redundant is preferable to me getting a pay-cut.
Maybe I am unusual in that or maybe just in being willing to admit it.

That is an interesting point, in my last job when things got a little ruff, we were all called to a meeting and asked if we would take a pay cut rather than redundancy's, every single person, without exception, said no to the pay cut
"... never believed for a moment that this was the correct way to bring down did, however see that it was a very, very good way to raise unemployment, and unemployment was an extremely desirable way of reducing the strength of the working classes" Sir Alan Budd (chief economic advisor to the treasury '91-'97)on the Tory government and their policies
Nothing new then

Or is it better to spend, spend, spend?

and by paying out extra unemployment beniefit, and getting less tax in...we are not spending !! Personally I would rather see money spent on extra teachers, extra nurses, extra policemen...than unemployment beniefit for those same teachers, nurses and policemen !!
when did a politician give a damn about anyone losing there job?
most of the time it is the governments policys that create job losses.
the only thing a politician is interested in is them selves.
i agree with foxy. if push came to shove.

I personally believe that all of this current Global Economic turmoil has been
deliberately created.
You might ask how could I come to such an conclusion, I give you the following
evidence...

Mr. Tourre has yet to face any legal pressure due to his own amazing admissions
in the above link.
Now, for my knowledge if an individual sells something knowing that product has
any problem or potential to fail but doesn't notify the buyer then this is deception
or using it's legal term...
Fraud.
The ONLY Banker in the entire Developing World that has been put in jail is
Bernie Madoff & that was cause he targeted then ripped-off the elites.
Ever heard of Jerome Kerviel that worked for Société Générale?
The majority of you I bet haven't, yet he created more Global Economic trouble
than Mr. Madoff.
They we're giving ordinary people loans from 1997 - Mid 2008, that at times
where in extreme 8x greater than personal salary..!!
Whilst they created a system in which was designed to fail yet during these
10½ years they made even more money knowing they had the cover of blaming the
ordinary people for knowing taking the loans that they we're selling.
This cash made has gone to building little nice places in the Sun such as Dubai,
so when they activate this 21st Century Great Depression they will be well away.
Leave those left behind for a couple of years until returning as the saviours yet
things then become all
Sheriff of Nottingham.
If this new Great Depression should occur remember who caused it.

Unemployment is an unavoidable part of economics, it simply cannot be avoided. All attempts to create full employment only put off economic reality until a later date. Any attempt to do this will end in such an economic crash that it then would be easier to count those in work than those out of it.
And as for the usual talk of teachers, nurses, doctors etc etc if these folk were the only people on the government payroll then there would not be a problem unfortunately there are countless thousands being paid by taxpayers who add zero net worth at all.
PS We can't spend spend spend anymore as a fat chunk of what we are spending now is borrowed, the only reason we are not in a situation worse than Greece is because we have the £ and the government is going to use inflation to reduce our debts.
To everyone make sure all your savings are in inflation proof assets or you will lose the lot over the longer term. Remember when a penny sweet cost a penny? £5 for a loaf of bread is not that far off!
