One thing that's on my list of pet hates is txt spk. How difficult is it to type out the word as it is? Why miss out lttrs? What's wiv chnging a wrd 2 a diffrnt one? But it's still supposed to make sense apparently?
You'd fink I was talking about some chavvy yooof but I iz not necessarily. Can someone enlighten me on this please? banghead

Surely I'm not the only one :uhoh:

I'm with you on this one. It really pisses me off when text speak is used in normal written communication - it seems to be part of a general 'dumming down' of the English language.
It's probably more annoying to those of us from an older generation - the age thing obviously don't apply to you though Flirty! lol

I only use text speak when texting and then limit it to such thing as c u later or we r going or msge me back, all other things I spell out in full and never use text speak when writing mails. I do use net speak, lol, smsl, wb, ty etc is that so different from using text speak and frowned upon as much ? I mean if so many hate text speak surely they hate net speak as much don't they ?
ASL is still very valid of course because we all like to know Actual Size and Length lol

It may be annoying, but it's just an example of the English language mutating.
Modern english is very different to the language used by Shakespeare, which in turn is very different to that used by Chaucer. Languages constantly evolve. It's just that textspeak is happening over a much shorter timespan due to more people being able to read and write and the ubiquity of the internet/social media/mobile phones.

I don't like text speak either, and I'll delete text messages without reading them at times, but i do luv words, and playin wiv them's fun. The only reason for using words is to communicate, therefore if they are clearly understood then that's fine by me.
Just by the way, I fink "fort's an o.k. word, though not one I use m'self, unless I might be referring to a particular fortress.

Nah, taint, comes natural after a while, get wiv the programme *smiling*
Txt Speak I don't use, can't be doin wiv it, but a different spin on some words is defo me, makes it a little different to the norm and as Skinners alludes to, playing with words is fun.
