A backlash against poncy coffee shops/cafe's/ Don't know if its the same where others live but there are just too many coffee shops selling the same types of coffee all with fancy fucking names such as Frappemochachocolatteexpressamericano and even fruit fucking teas (Jeez fruit teas I ask ya strewth)
What our town needs is a half decent greasy spoon. Not the rubbishy ones of yesteryear but just a decent coffee serving decent instant coffee or tea in a mug and the chance to maybe order a bacon roll/bap/bread-cake without it coming in olive fuckitchyeah bread run through a miniatureC orby trouser press and served hidden in a green salad of Mediterranean weeds
Grrrrrrrrrrrr bollox
Completely with you, have no idea these days where to find a proper breakfast bap (ie bacon, sausage, egg, mushroom and brown sauce), could keep us fuelled all day.
. . . But we do like Caffe Nero (sorry)
Greasy Lils (sometimes known as Hollies Cafe) on the A5 just up froom cannock towards stafford... traditional stodge and open 24hrs.
Quite often on the way back from a filthy sesh at Cupids we'll call in there for a cup o char and something to eat, my man usually has apple crumble n custard and I'll have a bacon sarnie and a cup o char. 4am in the morning usually, place is great and where tea really is tea and coffee really is coffee.
Am liking you and your mans style there Toots and I will makea point of travelling that way on me way North next time to indulge in some night time noshing.
Here in Brighton there's an abundance of the coffee shops, as well you might imagine, but if you just drift away from the town centre then there's also a number of greasy spoons, and some who actually care about the quality of your all day brekky, and how you like your tea or instant coffee.
Oh...I love the nice line in coffee shops. I do enjoy the strong taste of bean to cup....I even have a machine at home myself....no instant coffee mixed with chicory here.
Sitting in nice, comfortable surroundings, with cup of strong freshly ground and brewed coffee....Bliss !!!
I think the mass openings of all these coffee houses is a great thing, the more the merrier for me, put one in every other shop on the high street.
Would I use one, nah, I like my cuppa rosy lee, but if they want to fill up our empty high street shops and create more job opportunities then I am all for even more opening up.
I tend to avoid Starbucks, I like a quick Costa when I'm being lazy (their choc twist things are lovely) but I will make the effort to leave the local Westfield and make my way to the Corn Market cos they do lovely tea and tea cakes or a great salad. And if you ask, they will give you a second tea pot full of hot water to stretch your tea bag further.
I remember you ALWAYS got a separate pot of hot water in the 'good old days' of proper tea shops and cafes.
Coffee should be made with freshly ground beans ..... tea does not come in bags (these consist of floor sweepings and rat shit) we are a nation of hot beverage philistines and should hang our heads in shame
