oh...lets compare the two shall we:
John Prescott a prominent politician is walking through a crowd, when a man rushed forward, breaks the police cordon and throws an object at him. He has no idea if its an egg or a brick, or a knife even !! He instinctively reacted with a punch, that landed at chest height. Some might say, an understandable self defence reaction. However he still received a warning by police for his actions !!
Or do we prefer
A highly paid, spoilt brat, that couldn't get the food he wanted, so he throws a tantrum and thumps his co-worker, because he said he should of booked it properly !!
Oh yes....that's real comparison that is !!!!
Fact is Jeremy Clarkson will get probably get his job back as money talks. The sales of Top Gear abroad makes the BBC good money, and in their current financial state they need it.

Interesting.
Apparently Clarkson reported himself over this incident, only a few weeks before his contract is due to expire, and just before he (and the other two presenters) were about to renew their contracts.
Is this a ruse so they can sign a new megadeal with Sky instead...?
The BBC holds the rights to Top Gear and Clarkson gets a nice hefty chunk of proceeds, so it would have to be a pretty good offer to move from the BBC.

There's no such thing as BAD publicity innocent
What are the ratings like for the current series?
I'm a member of various 4x4 Owners Clubs and internet forums, and previous series have had threads along the lines of Top Gear's back on Sunday nights, followed by posts praising it and how various items/articles/celebrities were funny etc
This series has seen no threads regarding Top Gear; in fact no one has even mentioned this latest bruhaha, let alone the whole series. Which for petrolheads, dieselheads (and in my case veg oil head) is almost unheard of.
So if Clarkson was looking to jump ship, then yes,it's good publicity.
Clarkson himself has hinted that all good things must come to an end.
Especially as revelations now suggest that he also had a 30 minute foulmouthed rant threatening to have someone sacked, in front of members of the public, (a family.) For some reason one member of the family says their night was ruined by Clarkson, whilst another member has backed Clarkson...

Press are great at bunching together clips from TV programmes to put people in whatever light they choose to show them - and hell yeah he was right about Gordy :rascal:

thing i did like clarkson in was that grumpy old men series. because i am one lol
i do think the Pm is adding his bit as its close to the election and he wants to appeal to people siding with ukip that see farage as the man down the pub that would watch things like top gear.
just a popularity contest.

Yeh you is grumpy, and you is old bolt
yeah still fitter than you and can sort you out
I don't usually get involved in these types of discussion anymore as I have got in trouble in the past, but my thoughts are :-
Clarkson is a self opiniated arse, no one can argue differently?
I like him and May almost as much as I like the Hamster.
Top Gear is the biggest profit maker for BBC Worldwide?
If he punched a producer/colleague he should be sacked according to pretty much any employment contract.
How many high profile people have got away with similar confrontations in the past, rightly or wrongly?
Should the BBC sack him? In my opinion no, he brings in too much money and lots of viewers for them.
If he goes, or if it was planned/taken advantage of by him then good on him, he's looking out for his own interests.
Is it right? When has anything been fair or right?
We can all bitch and moan and are all entitled to have our own opinions, it's a bit sad that this out of all news stories has caused so much debate, but that's life.
Cheers,
N

Or you could compare a Politician, second in the land only to the PM that retaliates
and then goes on to scuffle with the said egg thrower to the point where he trips over a wall?
and yet roll on just over a decade and Milliband has the same but oh look, no punch but instead some amount of restraint and a smile.

as opposed to a TV presenter off camera supposdely on his lunch in a non reported (Police) issue and yet to be established issue at work?

The Deputy PM got to keep his job
Ok I know you're ever ready in many of your posts to 'condemn' or 'judge' people before any/many of the facts have been established but be advised A/ He hasn't actually lost his job for him to 'get it back' and B/ Money talks? Is that a bad thing given the sums involved?
If what has been reported so far (and lets not forget it's only hearsay) and JC did stick one on someone then for sure penalise him but to sack him?, oh come on, if it's good enough for Prescott (to name one of many examples) in his postion and he kept his post then JC and him staying as he is is chump change in comparison? Maybe you'd prefer we send him to the gallows? but not before having him flogged 100 times? *laughing*
Hopefully, the Beeb will realise his worth and consider giving him a new contract with a little more money for his previous sufferings under Cohen? But then pigs might fly.
They should sack Cohen for incompetence.
After a hard day's filming away from home, you could reasonably expect that he would have organised something appropriate for not only the presenters, but the film crew and everyone else associated with the activity.

An army marches on it's stomach

and that is no less true in this case. As 'commander-in-chief, Cohen has the duty to get it right and he fucked up big time. He's an incompetent prat and should suffer the consequences.
And as for the dipstick who has likened JC to Savile.... well, words fail me!
The BBC has a serious problem from the top downwards. It should be scrapped - along with the licence fee. Make the bastards earn a proper living to justify their miserable existence.

Words fail me....you try and compare a person going about his duty, when an unknown individual breaks through a police cordon and throws an object at your head
and you try and compare that with
someone that doesn't get his food he wanted...so turns round and according to two other families sitting in the bar...he starts swearing at the manager of the hotel and then turns round to his producer and says " This is your fault you fat irish twat " and punches him full, in the face, splitting his lip .
The fact that you think these two actions compare says it all.

where has he been likened to Jimmy Saville ???
A meal was booked....but they turned up late at , ( most hotel resturants do ask for food to be ordered by 9pm) and so the hotel presumed they would be eating elsewhere and as no else was eating at the time they sent the chef home. No doubt he is on a zero hour contract, and they have to pay him every hour he stands there waiting for them. Hardly the BBC 's fault !!!!

There ya go again, selective reading but to quote from the paper you have trashed in the past but then recently used to try and secure a point of view (and failed)

Gotta love it eh and here, no mention of a 'punch'

but it's all hearsay and whilst you appear to thrive on hearsay rather than cold hard facts methinks no matter what comes out or the BBC release it most likely won't be the full, unedited version.
Nearly 900,000 signatures now, how awesome is that. Ya just can't help love the guy and i suspect you do to Dean, you just can't be seen to eh? It's ok your secrets safe with me.

Clarkson has a reputation for putting his foot in it, by saying things on Top Gear, which people take offence to, TOP GEAR is NOT A LIVE program, but RECORDED and can be EDITED before going on air, makes you wonder eh!!

here we go again...your condescending laughing and snorting because people have a view that does not concur with YOURS..... you have already said in this thread that anyone not agreeing with your humour is miserable and blinkered. Every time you seek to offend, and put people down. You wonder why this forum is now so quiet. Well take a look in the mirror. I have received two PM's already this week-end saying we don't bother posting anymore because of the insults and condescending nature of replies. Your replies just show a total lack of respect for others. You told me in the other thread that I should stop posting....well congratulations when there are people with such a lack of respect for others and their views, I won't.
I will not post in this forum again...and you can thank yourself. You can be better than everyone else now, just like you think you are...because the only person you will be talking to is yourself.
Some of us have dignity and respect....some obviously don't.

I've worked with JC for some time in his capacity as a presenter of Top Gear (along with many other presenters of other shows) Most presenters are pandered to, JC was/is no exception to that, it's simply the nature of the beast, some of their quirks. what they want/expect 'because they're a presenter' would at times from an outsider looking in appear rather bizarre/outlandish/excessive but as is normally the case they get what they want and how they want (programme budget allowing) this doesn't just go for those at the top of their game such as JC but other lesser known daytime TV presenters also, it's always been the same.
Whilst I worked with JC (we're not buds, I'm not on his list of friends) we had a good, dare I say it excellent working relationship, but unlike some of the more precious Presenters JC was ever so easy to work with, he spoke his mind, he barked/demanded a bit and for sure he would occasionally become irritated, letting others know just how irritated he was but you knew where you stood with him (and him me for that matter *laughing*) most (not all, John Craven was the perfect gent, never got angry ) presenters can be a bit bossy/mardy it's their show after-all, happy mediums can at times be difficult to achieve in TV where personality shines more than the programme.
You're bang on with the editing, the entire footage hits the edit suite, the editors sit in along with the pogramme director, the footage is worked through with nothing usually left to chance, some editors are slick, others a little less so but once the final cut is ready the Producer then sits in and gives it the final approval, the presenters have very little say or even knowledge of the final version, the next they know is when it goes to air. So these alleged 'gaffes' 'could be' an orchestrated move by the powers that be to raise the temp/profile of the show and if that is the case they've thus far done an excellent job.
Tis my opinion that JC in his earlier years was actually much more outspoken/outrageous to the media animal we see today ( Piers Morgan for one knows first hand the JC of yesteryear )

Why am I the only person in the western world that thinks this is the biggest none story since "Phew, what a scorcher! "
It's Dave I feel sorry for, the current shows will only be repeatable for the next 20 years, what are they going to show then?
