restores my faith in common sense and the justice system

not sure how to get the link up properly
Put after the link.
You get one automatically if you click the url button a second time as you paste the link in.
Fixed your link. Hope that's ok. smile
So you think tagging a 66yr old granny is justice?
Good grief... they'd have to do a shitload more than that to restore my faith in the justice system but I'm glad for you that it's restored your faith. Nice that someone is happy.

When is the public ever pleased over some of the sentences dished out by out of touch judges and Magistrates?
This story just about sums things up really. An easy target and if the justice system put as much into other cases as they have this one, then maybe proper sentencing may well happen.
A storm in a goldfish bowl. Plus yet another council twat certainly doing his job, but I bet they do not take the same stance with some shopkeepers who sell alcohol to minors!!

A Conservative council twat as well.
You would lose your bet, Trafford council employs exactly the same tactics against off-licences and several have lost their licences recently.
Yes NWC they do the same in Kent, a number of my son's friends did it as a pocket money job.
i may be wrong here but after reading the full article it seams that they were mistreating another animal which had to in the end be put down. in my eyes the mistreatment of animals should not be tolerated and the majority of the sentence was justified perhaps the tag was a bit severe, we do not know if this was the first case the pet-shop was involved in so perhaps it was justified also
From The Metro (Manchester free paper):
The shop............. was investigated after a complaint that it sold a gerbil to a teenager with learning disabilities, who put the animal in a cup of coffee and killed it.

Mrs Higgins said the cockatiel was not for sale but had not been quarantined as it should have been.

From The Independent:
Head of Public Protection at Trafford Council, Iain Veitch said:"The council will always try to support pet and business owners so that they are able to care for their animals properly, but where they continually ignore the advice they are given, we will not hesitate to use our statutory powers."

From The Guardian:
The shop owner Joan Higgins and her son Mark yesterday pleaded guilty at Trafford magistrates court to causing unnecessary suffering to the cockatiel and selling an animal to a person under 16 who was not accompanied by an adult. Higgins was fined £1,000 and put under home curfew between 6pm and 7am for the next seven weeks because she was unfit for community work.

So, if these reports are to be believed, we've got a woman who's:
-Imported an animal that's not been properly quarantined and that has needed to be put down to end it's prolonged suffering due to it's poor physical condition.
-That's previously sold a gerbil to someone who's clearly unable to comprehend the care needed for a pet, said pet then being boiled alive in a cup of coffee.
-Has previously been advised about selling to people who are potentially unsuitable to own and care for animals without questioning their situation, but obviously chosen to ignore the advice given.
-Who then attempted to avoid Courted-ordered punishment by stating that she was unfit to carry out any form of Community Service (which I'm led to believe there are an extensive range of options open to the courts).
If you consider some of the other elements reported in the press, then she doesn't really come out looking like Mother Theresa does she?
I guess that 'Store owner convicted of animal cruelty' doesn't have the correct element of 'spin' or isn't considered to be of news-worthy quality to spoon-feed to the masses any more. sad

yeah , well said easy, this is why i started my lies ,damned lies and newspapers thread, but it seems those who know ,know and those who accept every word in the damn things refuse to open there eyes and take any critical reasoning skills into consideration

Make your mind up. You either believe what the press say....or you do not.
Or do you only believe the bits you want to believe?
Taken from one of your threads....." There seem to be an element of i read it so it it must be true that many folk subscribe to".
Now what thread was it in? Oh yes I know.
Me thinks there is a bit more to this story........

Or you apply a bit of critical thought, look at a few different sources and then make up your own mind, but certainly never believe everything that's written anywhere until you've done that. It's what they teach children to do at school now.
I must admit there are some good bloody comedians in this forum....well they make me laugh anyways!!

You can call it what you like, does not mean for a second that it is.
Still you have the right to an opinion.
Kenty I've made my mind up I do not believe the press they are journalists and that is a word that is unfortunately nowadays synonymous with liar
A bit like our politicians then Staggs?
I recall being in the park with my father when I was 7.
-Newspapers son- he said-- are the most wonderful things in the world now put another layer under yer overcoat to keep the chill out but whatever you do never believe word they print.
My dad went on to be Lord Lucan.

they're most certainly not mine......I've spoiled every ballot paper since blair came to power*....the only way I'd cast a vote for any of them is to keep the B.N.P. or ukip out and then I'd vote for anyone even a miserable lieing tory
