Is this going to be Cameron's 'Poll Tax' equivalent ?
The former chief executive of the NHS says the government's proposals for the health service in England are a "mess," "confused" and "will set the NHS back."
Also against the proposals are include :-
- British Medical Association
- Royal College of GPs
- Royal College of Nursing
- Faculty of Public Health
- Royal College of Anaesthetists
- Royal College of Ophthalmologists
- Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
- Royal College of Pathologists
- Royal College of Psychiatrists
- Royal College of Radiologists
whilst those who've expressed concerns with the Bill include :-
- Royal College of Physicians of London
- Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
- Royal College of Surgeons of England
- Faculty of Occupational Medicine
with quotes like,
"Our latest survey of members found that 93% of those responding said that the Health and Social Care Bill, if passed, will damage the NHS and the health of people in England",
"The bill is fundamentally flawed and will not improve the health and care of people with mental illness."
"Given our widespread concerns over many serious and as yet unresolved issues, we cannot support, and must continue to oppose, the passage of the bill in its current form."
Finally the Lib Dems grass roots are realising this is another 'no student fees increase' scenario and Lib Dem activists are preparing an emergency motion for their spring conference urging the party to work towards defeating the NHS reform bill. It "applauds the hard work being done by Liberal Democrat peers to remove the worst elements" of the Health and Social Care Bill" and that it notes the government has "totally failed to convince either the public or NHS staff" of the need for change."
The Government's bill to reform the health services in England was a "privatisation plan for the NHS", Andy Burnham the shadow health secretary said it was the "genie out of the bottle moment"
The Government's response, "we must sell the benefits more"
Do the comments like Wake up and smell the coffee, or I know a dead parrott when I see onestrike a chord. Yes NHS will always need reform and modernisation, but how about trying to get something through which people support ?

Falklands again ?
Granted no Navy or planes at the moment
soon we will all have to pay for private medical insurance on top of national insurance.
you wait and see. its coming.
and the government will justify it based on earnings.

The first step will be a 'cost saving measure' to combine National Insurance and Income Tax into a single charge against income.

Syria or more likely, Iran.
But it was just a bit-tounge-in-cheek, (I hope).

John,
Nah, Syria doesn't have any oil and remember last time our sailors tried to navigate up a river - seem to remember they cried when the Iranians took away their iPods
lol
Will this be Camerons' poll tax ?? yes and no ..
Yes: it is ill conceived, unpopular, and potentially disastrous....The N.H.S. does need reform, the first thing that should be done is the removal of the ridiculous concept of a 'market' in second thing is to do away with the notion that 'competition' is the way to get the best most efficient service for customers;the privatised gas, electricity, water, rail and telephony industries should stand as more than enough proof of the fallacy of that idea.
No: there will be no riots,it will not bring down his government or end his tenure as Tory leader..people are no longer surprised enough by the greed and idiocy of our politicians to do anything about it

as a suprise to many i actually agree with you mr staggers
one of the things i would like to see though in the NHS is that no matter where you live or how old you are, everyone gets the same treetment. regardless of cost or certainly nothing to do with a persons post code. a postcode lottery system to treetment was never something that the founders of the NHS would have stood for.
i am currently being looked after by the NHS for various neck problems ( mrs star has always said i was a real pain in the neck blink ), and i have to say that my treetment and time waited has been second to none. i only waited two weeks for an MRI scan, and only a further 13 days to see a neurology surgeon at one of the greatest hospitals, that is st. Barts in london. so from my point of view the NHS is working perfectly well.
so leeve what works well alone mr cameron.
Nick Clegg has said he remains committed to seeing through changes to the NHS despite being defeated by Lib Dem party members over the issue. (He was speaking after activists in Gateshead failed to back government concessions secured by the Lib Dems).
So Nick, if your own party are telling you to reject it why are you still going to support the changes ?
(Student Loans u-turn anyone ?)
He has managed to make some changes which people should be very pleased with
Also he had more good news;
In his keynote speech, Mr Clegg also pledged to do more to reduce the tax burden for the lowest-paid, saying next week's Budget must have "fairness" at his heart.
The UK's economic recovery would be "long and hard", he argued, but the Lib Dems and their Conservative coalition partners were determined to help those facing tough times.

Yes we all well remember Clegg's pledges

So expecting him to have bugger all impact in the Budget as only a 20% member of the Coalition

And had he got in as a government he may well have kept them, but he did not, it is a coalition, he is not in a position to keep those promises, so why do people keep harping on about them?
After the House of Lords approved the bill late on Monday evening, the government's health changes have survived their final parliamentary test - with hopes the Health and Social Care Bill will now get Royal Assent and become law by Easter.
All this whilst set against NHS staff numbers in England having seen their biggest drop in a decade with nursing posts among those culled, official figures show. Admittedly most of the drop related to support and managerial staff, but nurse numbers also fell 3,500 - despite promises by ministersto protect the frontline.
Peter Carter, General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, said "Put bluntly, the idea that cutting hundreds of jobs from a hospital will not affect the care of patients is ludicrous."
