PC gone mad or shown the error of their ways

Read a story today about a toy maker who removed the pig from the farm set in case it upset the muslim community. .
At first glance it looks like and is PC gone mad within this company. After a backlash they have re-instated the pig.
To me this is just another story where someone has been shown the error of their ways........and had the good grace to admit they were wrong, rather than trying to decide for us.
It seems to me that it is individuals who cock up, but I do think they are trying to do it to not upset people.........not realising the consequences of their actions will upset others.

Ok,googled seems to lower production costs they removed the pig,as they also sell the set always a pure business decision is interpreted as political correctness.
Companies want to make the highest profit at the lowest capitalism folks.
Btw we can all sleep easy, the pig has been reinstated for the British market.

The company stated it was for religious views in the email to the complainant. How should the complainant view this? As a business decision or take them at their word?
So in this case it was not a pure business decision at all, but listening to someone within who said it should be banned on religious grounds.
I had already stated in the opening post that the pig was re-introduced, so nobody had a reason to lose sleep over this.

So it wasn't a pure business decision as you first stated then, but they looked at religious reasons as well. Thanks for clarifying that

Head desk.
i give up

It was clear enough to me Kaz... Dave is only reminding you of what you said!
The thing is that media reports give the impression that ELC bowed to pressure from UK religious minority groups. When in reality ELC bowed to customer feedback in markets where the pig is widely reviled.
Two totally different stories really. The former inspires worry and concern for the erosion of the british way of life amongst some people. The latter shows a multi national company trying to take into account the feelings of its diverse customers.
What the media reports demonstrate to me is that some of our media go out of their way to inspire worry and unrest. Let's be honest just how newsworthy is ELC not selling plastic pigs in Saudi Arabia---about as newsworthy as Walls only selling beef sausages, unless the newspaper concerned has an axe to grind.
All of the above is not wrong, Just maybe its the "one upmanship" going on that always damn welll is
couple of us lads had had plastic pigs, we loved them as we could remove the passenger seat and drive them on our provisional moped license :giggle:

I don't think they did in this case. They said that it was an internal decision made after customer feedback in the report.
If ELC is a multinational company then they should take account of the different zones they are selling their product. In this case it is easier to remove an item (and save money) than to have different inclusions for different zones. It is starting to sound as a money spinner to me

Yeah dave I thin it was entirely commercial.
read the reports in papers like the sun, I still think they give the impression it was UK customers who complained about the inclusion of the pig.

I did read it in the Sun Ben. I can't remember it being like that though........there again it was this morning and I could be totally wrong blink

If I am ever in the market for a farm animal set I shall now be inspecting them. No Pig no purchase biggrin
I just purchased the same farm set from the Seoul branch of ELC and the only animals it had were 4 labradors, 3 golden retrievers, 2 corgis and a poodle!!
