Thanks Flower.
Gave me and minx a giggle.
Very amused by the statement from their boss.
"I have spoken to the officers concerned and reminded them in no uncertain terms that tobogganing on duty, on police equipment and at taxpayers' expense is a very bad idea should they wish to progress under my command," Supt Murray added.
You can just imagine that being said in Rowan Atkinsons copper voice.
Them doing that probably did more more for Public Relations than a whole years worth of spin from a desk jockey.....
Their Chief Super had likely read Kentys rant about snow and thought he'd best say summat sharpish before he got his very own thread on SH....
Police Chief Super condones riot shield sledges....
"It`s not been made entirely clear exactly what they were reprimanded for but I should imagine that using a riot shield for a sledge didn`t go down very well"
I'm sorry, I've seen the footage and the riot shields went down very well indeed
I'm with the Chief Super on this one...
Don't you people realise that using a riot shield as a toboggan causes micro-scratches on the surface of the shield which, later, when used as a weapon again rioters will harbour blood stains making it easier for defence forensics teams to prove that Police brutality actually took place?
FFS!
Riot shields have a life, defined by the number hits they take. The plastic get brittle.
So in using it to slide in the snow they were reducing it's life, just a bit, ie. Damage to Police property.
As for should they be reprimanded, Yes but just a tap on the back of the hand.
Travis
Looked good fun didn't it lol
I agree entirely with these officers being reprimanded.....what ever happened to fair play and sportsmanship....in my day one merely congratulated the batsman on a well executed shot

I think it was for mis use of police proprty
And yes there is a whiff of sour grapes in the air,i think the pics did more to improve public perception of the police than the rediculous "bopping" to the music by a strained looking pc one that always comes out at every mela or carnival.

PICTURES! of police officers.......
Who was brave enough to take such pictures?
But this might only be the start.
It's a slippery slope...rolleyes

It seems a group of police officers have been reprimanded for sledging while on duty.
It`s not been made entirely clear exactly what they were reprimanded for but I should imagine that using a riot shield for a sledge didn`t go down very well !! :giggle:
Now, I`m sure that some people will say that it`s just the fact that they were on duty but I`ve seen police at carnivals and festivals get involved with the fun while on duty .....Do they get reprimanded too ??
Looks to me like a touch of sour grapes from some office-bound senior officer. rolleyes

Yes, I saw a policeman on duty at a village fete once and instead of keeping his eyes scanning round, he just watched the activities with everyone else. Right behind his back a little lad scratched a car - bit like the old pantomime trick "behind you".
Plim

Don't get me started, the day it became illegal to use the mobile phone I saw an officer of the law on his phone and several time since i have seen other officers using their phones.
Another time while on the pavement along came plod in his car, in a Que of traffic, with his phone between his legs texting. I called very loudly but was ignored.
Of course unlike us mere mortals, they do not crash cars or run over people....
Now what were they doing with the riot gear in the first place!!

Erm . . . police officer, cos they're allowed? At which point half a dozen PCSOs, who were hanging around out of shot mobbed the aforementioned police officer, to stop him getting away and stuff, and radioed a second police officer to do a proper stop and search under Section 44, cos yer PCSO don't actually have those kind of powers, and then yer second copper waltzed up and demanded to see the contents of the first copper's mem stick, and the first copper said 'You what? You can't do that', and the the second copper said 'I think you'll find I can sunshine', amd the first copper said 'No you fucking can't'' at which point they all stopped and had a bit of a think, just like, to themselves and stuff, cos none of 'em were really all that sure, and one by one they realised that they didn't really understand Section 44 very well at all, or what powers they may or may not have between 'em, so then they had a bit of a conference, and subsequently decided to radio through to control cos they knew they were well out of their depth, at which point control tried to explain the concepts of 'Authorised area' and 'of a kind which could be used in connection with terrorism', and then everyone got a bit confused, and the first copper said to the second copper 'You know what? Sod this for a game of soldiers, you can have the bloody stick, so long as this is on Facebook come monday morning. Now hold me camera, cos I'm bombing it down this 'ill on me riot shield.'
And that is how it all came to be on Youtube. biggrin
