I would have thought a religious man might have kept his personal views to himself. Then again of coarse he is entitled to his view. Just seams a bit rude and inquired though
A senior Papal adviser has pulled out of the Pope's UK visit after saying arriving at Heathrow airport was like landing in a "Third World" country.
Who cares what an adult with imaginary friends thinks?

Blimey talking down Catholism and the Pope? Had this been a couple of years ago this thread would of been jumped the f*ck on with outcry's of disbelief from offended peoples. Times have changed and in this case BLOODY GOOD JOB!. biggrin
With the state of this country and its finances, the money used for that particular visit could have been better spent! rolleyes

Why would he keep his opinion to himself? He's just as much right to express it as the next person.
What do you mean by 'seams a bit rude and inquired'?

Having been to heathrow i am not surprised lol

It may well be odd but i love going to Heathrow It such a crazy place its worth grabbing a coffee and watching for a time. Stansteds good too biggrin
in the interview he was reported to say
Cardinal Walter Kasper reportedly told a German magazine the UK was marked by "a new and aggressive atheism".

does this mean that he dislikes those of us who no longer want religion forced upon us
and have no interest in religion,
i fail to see how this makes us look like a third world country (or maybe it was a racist remark based of the amount of foreign visitors that pass through heathrow )dunno
add this in the mix

not bad for someone who was a member of the Hitler youth
and to think were paying for this clown to come here and vilify our religious views loon

I would point out that as a young person living in Germany at that time he had no choice but to be a member of the Hitler Youth. That in itself proves nothing about his politics.
However, I can't approve of his currently stated views or the insistence on protecting priests.
This is apart from my own strong belief that, if there is a God, this God does not need a huge organisation or even a single priest in order to communicate with me. Nor do I need said organisation to speak to God on my behalf.
Pope Benedict started a trip to Britain on Thursday with some of the clearest criticism yet of his Church's handling of its sexual abuse crisis and urged the country to beware of "aggressive secularism."

A 3rd World Country that they want to visit, oh and get said 3rd World Country to pay for the priviledge of them visiting ?
dunno
Well if they don't like us, what happened to the UK Border & Immigration people holding them at the airport, then deporting them back on the next available flight ?
Would have saved us all tedious amount of publicity posed as 'news coverage' and allowed the £11m , published rather than total costs, to save a few more jobs in the UK or paying off the 'national debt'
banghead
Oh well at least this 3rd World Country has such things as airports, democracy, open elections, freedom of expression (ish), freedom of information unlike the small 'state' that they live in
People are complaining that we have been called a 3rd world country.
People have died in hospital corridors due to lack of space or facilities, we have people living homeless on the streets, we send troops to war, then expect them (as has happened on a few reported occasions) to buy their own kit to name a few examples.
Maybe he has a point.....

Our national football team speaks volumes of how third world we really are!

You are certainly on the money with that one.
Over paid wallys. lol
This country amazes me. Look at the fantastic things we have - free basic education, the advances we have in cancer treatment and other diseases, the fact our major museums and art galleries are free, the National Parks, libraries hell, even the fact that most eateries and drinkeries have clean, safe toilets fro customers to use. These things being available to every citizen is, to me, the indicator of a most civilsed country.
Then you see the sink estates, the people on trolleys in hospital corridors, old folk being moved from care home to care home as if they are parcels, prisons acting as no more than storage boxes for criminals without any resources left for dragging the petty criminals back into society, farmers making a loss on every lamb born.
So what are we? A beacon of civilisation as the Victorians thought we were and hoped to be in the future (which is now) or a 'third world' country in need of help from outside agencies to get ourselves back into the light?
I think we are both and I think we have to work incredibly hard and intelligently to fix the crap stuff without sacrificing the fantastic resources and opportunities available to us already.
Oh, and the England football team need to be selected for teamwork as well as individual skill and kept playing together for 3 months prior to any major international competition.
Well at least he has said something sensible on his visit.
I think the Pope's visit is turning out to be much better than the organisers had ever planned...
And I do have to admit to being considerably educated on some of the historical aspects associated with the places he has visited.
but wtf are Sky News doing having that awful Anne Widdecombe commentating on the events? She may now be a "prominent" ex politician converted Catholic (like some others I could mention) but she looks like she's been dragged through a hedge backwards and would be better employed commenting on a witches convention!

As evidence of his intellectual shallowness and tawdry approach to public debate the pope wading into the non story of every winter is pretty damning...
