Scum | Swinging Heaven

This word has been banded about on here a fair few times, and it seems that a Magistrate cannot use it.

Now for me it is a word that scums...sorry sums lol

up a particular section of our community.
These thugs who this Magistrate called scum, well lets be fair, they are. Even one of the Fathers branded his own son scum.
I cannot believe that a Magistrate can be suspended for using that as a term to describe a nasty little toad.
So.....is the word scum as offensive as some seem to make out or....is it just another example of the PC madness we have come to expect in 21st century Britain?

I loved that film.
The bit where Winston said to that black guy..." where's ya tool " and the black guy replied " what tool ? ", and then Winston said " this fucking tool " as he bashed him about the head and body with some snooker balls wrapped up in a sock.

A magistrate shouldn't use it in the youth court. Youth courts have different rules to adult .

A magistrate shouldn't use it in the youth court. Youth courts have different rules to adult .

Clerks do mildly rebuke magistrates in public, to be fair on occassions they have to - magistrates are usually lay people and some are sadly not fit for purpose (but that's another story).
In this case, I think the clerk was right as the magistrate was clearly out of order to confuse facts of a particular case with a personal view (adult as well as child court). Let me explain; what these young men DID was very bad, SCUM implies that they are very bad all the time and through and throughout - I would assume that there was no evidence presented to say that effect. Anyone in a judicial position MUST keep to matters in hand and the evidence and not become emotional about personal feelings against the accused - justice is for all and all about fair, non-prejudicial trials.

The word scum has this meaning...
" worthless or contemptible person or group of people ".
Sums up these toads to perfection.
So he was right to call them this, as they are certainly worthless, and definatly contemptible.

As most would say he is, then he is also calling them scum.

With respect Kenty, others may see it and not know it was an 'injoke' between the two of you and think you are getting away with something you shouldn't. I'd hate to think people thought we were favouring some members over others.
