Satire/joke or a step too far?
In shock news jeremy clarkson is an arse
He can take a joke well I feel
well firstly...can't see why shooting someone infront of their family is funny !!
In the end its typical Clarkson....pre-planned comment to get publicity. He is just plain ignorant.
Just like when the Johnathon Ross comments were broadcast, just silly ramblings from a silly person, who is in need of his profile being raised with a little controversey !
Seems like it worked !!!
Ed Miliband only says what his paymasters, the Trades Unions, tell him what to say. I'm not even sure that there is a brain in that odd looking head of his; perhaps its just a zombie MP3 player with 2 radio buttons surrounded by black neoprene cushions on the front and eerie looking speakers on the side. I think the nose structure acts like the Bose® wave speaker system and the mouth is for putting CD's in.
You know, I heard a rather interesting comment yesterday.
In the form of a question, the commentator asked who pays for the Police presence at football stadia? The football clubs of course was the immediate answer.
In that case, why can't the Trades Unions pay the massive Police bill for policing the pensions demonstrations?
Might focus them a bit more on the use of their funds....
BTW, hasn't Clarkson got a book out just of late? He's been watching Michael O'Leary's brilliant but extra-ordinary marketing for Ryanair - suggesting that they ask people to pay 1€ to use the toilet (last years marketing) and this year that they will remove the toilets all together to put in extra seats as so many complained about the extra cost! Saves Ryanair a fortune on prime time advertising.
Clarkson must be laughing all the way to the bank.
Complaints over Clarkson strike comments reach 21,000
* "I think they (the strikes) have been fantastic. Absolutely. London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you can whizz about, restaurants are empty," he said.
* "It's also like being back in the 70s. It makes me feel at home somehow," said the Top Gear presenter, before adding: "But we have to balance this though, because this is the BBC" and went on: "Frankly, I'd have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean, how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?"
* When the presenters pointed out that these were Clarkson's personal views, he said: "They're not. I've just given two views for you."
When, as a young working adult, I moved from ooop norf to the Midlands, I observed very quickly that Midlanders had a very difficult time understanding any form of humour.
Dean's post has just reminded me of that.
Nothing seems to have changed there since the early 1970's :lol2:
Perhaps those that did not find it funny are too low down in the hierarchy to risk finding it funny?
Displaying humour means taking control of the situation from those higher up the hierarchy and this is risky for people of lower status, which before the 1960s meant women rarely made other people laugh - they couldn't afford to.
Or maybe its the North South divide the Gnv mentioned
Northern comedians don't try to be cleverer or smarter than us. Southern comics tell us how they got one over on someone, Northern comics tell us what a prat they made of themselves.
I wonder how many who have complained about Clarksons comments have also made comments about enjoying the day when Thatcher dies?
It is just a bandwagon that a number of people have jumped on. They are quick to register complaints about the comments of a person that people either say are from a buffoon or humourous, yet say nothing about things that are actually worthwhile?
And it goes to show what the priorities of this society are, that the discussion of Clarkson's comments has generated more column inches, Facebook posts and tweets than the success/failure of the strike itself.
I still don't get the picture thing. big glass cube - stop sign - pebbles - nope, no idea.
The Clarkson thing is two sided:
It was a crass, purely for effect, not in any way funny, thing to say. It doesn't qualify for joke, pun, knock-knock or any other recognised joke format. If carried out there would be an outcry. He sarted by saying how great it was (for him personally of course) and then says kill the strikers in front of their families.
On the other hand Clarkson is an ignorant, boring arse, so what would anyone expect?
I have to question the intelligence of the producer of the programme who seems to have invited the twit on specifically to comment on the subject and make a typical 'Clarkson Comment'.
What astonishes me is that anyone hadn't turned to another channel when he walked on.
