but I do have to say, in recent times, particularly during the harsh winter, that more bars have allowed smokers to exercise their passion indoors with the result that we now find our clothes and hair (well, V's as I have precious little these days) smells dreadful after popping in just for our regular coffee/cognac.
Roll on the warmer weather so the outcasts can once again be cast out!

I wonder though IF everyone quit smoking what effect that would have on the Government from the money taken in??
Your not a smoker then? lol

How true is that Davey. The cameras will not be used to catch REAL criminals, oh no that is too much like hard work. Catch the smokers and the people who park in a car park and their ticket had run out five minutes ago.
Target people who stray into bus lanes with a 100 quid fine. Put speed cameras in places where people are bound to get caught.
This country is taking us all for total mugs, and us Brits on the whole roll over like little lap dogs and take it.
I SMOKE in my unit...I SMOKE in my van, and nobody or nothing will ever make me stop.
It is MY unit which I pay 15 grand a year for, plus 5 grand in business rates, which btw I get nothing at all for that. It is MY van that I pay for and tax and insure and MOT.
Bollox to all the little twats out there with their little clip boards waiting to pounce on the motorist or the smoker....I bet they sleep very well at night too....well they would, they work for the local councils!!

If you pay £15k a year for it then technically it's not yours. You lease it. You don't own it. Which means someone else owns it. Technically! wink

Well " technically " yes you are right.
But the " landlord " knows we smoke in there, and they have no problem with it. As she has said " you pay the rent, you can do what you like ".
Her only concern is that we pay the rent.
" technically " she is right.

No problem there then - until it burns down and you have to explain to the insurance company why smoking stuff, ashtrays and cigarette stubs were found in the debris. The police may accept the (presumably verbal) arrangement with your landlord - but the insurers are likely to be less sympathetic and may not feel inclined to pay out where the laws on smoking have been ignored. In which case, are you absolutely sure your landlord will back you up? Not that I care personally, but you seem to have a very cavalier attitude to the protection of property you are only renting. But then, no doubt a few   will fix all that won't it. LOL
Actually we ourselves have over half a million pounds worth of equipment in the building, so as responsible adults we make sure all fags are put out and then taken out of the building when we go home.....no trace ya see. wink
We will not let some bureaucratic ex smoker tell us what to do.....so there. lol

As the law goes, regardless of your agreement with your landlord, you're in the wrong, technically! lol
Oh dear then, naughty us. wink
Am sure there are loads of people out there that never break the law in some way.
For us it is quite simply.......feck em. lol

corr.. all those combustibles - paper, ink, spirit, and smoking...
not to mention the hot bird on the bike :rascal:
I would have thought it more a H&S issue than just running the gauntlet on the anti-smoking laws.
What if the unit next door catches fire? Not your fault I know, but the consequences will be the same surely.
As your building burns, the sirens wail and the paper crackles, you will still remember to remove all those ciggy stubs and ashtrays on your way out, won't you...

Kentswingers chooses to disregard laws of the land he don't quite agree with shocker! Tells local agencies tasked with law enforcement to go 'fuck' themselves. confused
:notes:
Not that I'd ever grass you up Kenty obviously, cos I don't even know where you live, let alone where your unit is, or anything like that, and between you and me, we smoke in our unit as well, and when we're on site visits knee deep in snow with an Arctic wind cutting through us to the point where we have to scurry into a running van with the heaters on every 'alf 'our just to get feeling back into our fingers and stave off hypothermia, well a ciggie ain't too much to ask is it? dunno Just thought I best point out that at some point your posts will likely spring to some people's minds next time you're castigating people for breaking laws you do agree with? :? lol ;)

Aww but Neil ...there are good laws and bad laws and "common sense" makes it clear which are good and which are bad.
The good "common sense" laws are there to be enforced by our fine upstanding police force and judicial system ....
Whereas the bad laws are imposed by ignorant leftie liberal morons and enforced by unreasonable namby pamby jobsworths !!!
Didn`t you know that ???
It`s just basic common sense after all !!! lol
in fact if people would just use their common sense we could probably do away with the judicary altogether and have all deviants punished by right minded citizens who know a wrong un when they see one
after they've been summonsed in the Daily Wail, of course innocent

Neil correct me if I am wrong here but...I thought the smoking ban was brought in so as non smokers do not have to breath in other peoples smoke? You know the passive smoking thingy?
Now IF that was the major reason, which from memory that was the main reason, what IF we are the only ones who use our van, and the only people who come into our unit are the people who work there, and btw they all smoke, where are the passive smoking laws in this case?
They have issued a blanket ban when that was never the original intention. The very people that took this law so vigorously through Parliament were themselves massive non smokers....no hidden agendas there then?
Me and my business partner and the others that work there all smoke, the only people that use the van are the two business partners. Can you not see how mad this law really is? Can people not see the massive damage this law has caused the license trade?
There are many laws out there that are ridiculous, and there are other things that should be law, but are not.
IF I choose to break the law it is me and me alone who will pay any fine they impose...my choice.
I am fully in agreement that smoking should be banned from places where people eat, I am also in favour of pubs banning smoking but...NOT a complete blanket ban. The smoker now has NO choices and I feel that was wrong. Publicans should have been given a choice in this matter but were denied it.
There are laws I agree with 100% and other laws that quite frankly are laughable. I choose to smoke and as there is nobody in MY van or MY unit or MY house that do not smoke, I will do as I please, and take any consequences that come my way IF I ever get caught.
The bit I highlighted can apply to anyone on here or in the REAL world. Every law out there you will always find someone who does not agree with it. I just think the smoking ban is not practical and why should some lefty from whatever quango you want to mention, ban me from doing something IF my choice to smoke does not affect others?
The only time I do not smoke in my house is when one of my Grandkids comes over, then I go into the garden.
I will take the full force of any fine I might get issued upon me IF I was to ever get caught...cannot say fairer than that eh? wink
Kent, you don't have to convince me. I was very nearly agreeing with you? ;) I think it's a stupid law, that and his M.D. breaks on a daily basis. :uhoh: It's never a good idea to kind of semi-criminalise otherwise law-abiding citizens by making otherwise lawful activities kind of semi-illegal? Not without thinking through unintended consequences of yer blanket ban legislation anyways? confused SWIM will probably remind you of that too at some point? lol :P
I blame the 'something must be done' brigade ((( Whoever they may be dunno :? ))) but that's not the point I was making. :? Still, 'Neil and Kent, comrades in arms' is not a post I ever envisaged? We'll make an anarchist of you yet! :P

As I always knew it would not stop at banning it from all pubs clubs and businesses. Now it seems they want to ban it from cars also.

Now that is fine IF you carry children in it but what I do know is once again it will become a blanket ban in ALL cars.
Next???????? They will try and get it banned from homes too next.
If I did not know different I would think Germany had won the war, and the Gestapo were in charge of things.

Sometimes I seriously wonder.
I just bought a new car. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
I shall smoke in my new car provided I'm not carrying non-smoking passengers.
Should a law be brought in to prevent smoking in my own vehicle, I've come to the conclusion that I'll do the crime and take the consequences.
So there!
Fuck em.........And their no smoking in my car law boink
