Following George Osborne announcements to day;
What is the way forward from here?
Having seen that stimulus did not work for Gorden Brown or in the U/S, I feel the Chancellor should hold his nerve and continue with his Austerity plans.
Whay does the brains of S/H forum, feel is the best way forward?
Sorry re the multi post. redface
Not sure what happened, after clicking post the screen went white, I clicked refresh several times and this must have been my downfall! surprisedops:
The curse of trying to add a { Poll }, dunno why but seems to let you think it's not posted when infact it has, but without the actual Poll. (Hopefully MODs or ADSMIN will spot and delete the 3 other versions that are 'locked', plus Admin will probably find the { Poll } and it'll appear tomorrow)
Austerity Plans ???
Not likely, just spending/cutting in different ways but the overall borrow by the government is within a fraction of a % that Gordon Brown/'ello' Darling said they were going to spend.
So he's sticking to Plan A but betting it's Plan A version 35 by now
I was hopping he may have done more for small business, I see he said he would make it easier for small business to borrow money, but how many wish to?
We are just heading into our 3rd year of a new business and have done all we can to avoid borrowing any money!
Good luck continuing your business Blue.
If you can avoid the banks and borrowing, continue to do so
Organic growth is always the best if you can manage it.
Did I hear right in the Autumn Statement that they have either frozen, reduced or provided a 'holiday' on NDR (business rates) for small businesses? The amounts we were asked to pay as a small business under the auspices of Prescott's 'rip off business' policies were phenomenal and were crippling. Even though we used only a third of the building which we owned, there was no prospect of getting a rebate and what was even more hurtful was when we discovered we'd been overpaying for years and they would only refund the current year.
Top that with the fact you still have to arrange the emptying of your own bins and you really wonder what the hell you are paying for!
If I heard it right, that must be considerable help for business.
Lending to small business is a nightmare; what the banks look for is an ability to recover their loan if it all goes bad. Therefore, lending money to employ more staff doesn't help. Lending against plant is a much better option. Sadly, whilst the Government wants banks to lend against greater employment, this is diametrically opposed to what the Banks need in order to keep interest rates low.

I have to be honest, I don't know the answer to that, sadly at this stage of our business it will not help us one jot.... I will pm you so you can see why wink
neither. glass steagal imediately. a firewall between retail and commercial banks. ban and refute all derivitives imediately. outlaw fraud imediately.
get out of afghanistan, iraq, libya, syria, pakistan imediately or perish in austerity or thermo nuclear war. ban bankers from taking over governments imediately.
Which Glass Steagal Act are you referring to? Do you mean a firewall between retail and MERCHANT/INVESTMENT banks? If so, there needs to be more than a firewall. Fraud is already illegal.
Have we invaded Syria? I must have missed that one.
