ok i think i remember that they r building one above us. then a ship that will not have to take off from earth...but all has gone hush hush...is it still being built? or have they stop as money is short??

It's due to be finished next year and has been permanently manned since 2000, so this year sees a new record for a continuous prescence in space, beating the current record set by the russian Mir capsule.
The ISS has been a source and location for breakthroughs and discoveries including, communications, medicine, solar & alternative energy sources and agriculture.
It's partly responsible for helping smooth relations between the main participating nations, mainly Russia and The USA.
Stopping it now would be a bigger waste of money than continuing to fund the project, maybe we should look at saving money from other sources first, such as wars of disputable legality or worldwide state funding and tax breaks for major religions, both of which provide little benefit to the human race

As for the planed visit to Mars. It is still a pipe dream. A lot of work is being done on Supplying enough food for the trip and getting back. The fact is, it could be done right now, but doing it now would be like putting floats on a car and driving to New York. Dangerous costly and needing so much support in the form of a trailer.. barge it just is not going to happen.
The good thing is, NASA are looking for private companies to take over the supply flight to the Space Station. The should bring the cost down, and make it safer. To my knowledge there is only one company close to manned flight, Virgin.
