Hope you don't mind my interjection but...
We are talking Quango here Dave. They don't care a flying fuck how much is costs when it's other people's money :lol2: I wouldn't be surprised if they are in a garage near you right now!
were talking, of London, was black cabs. They are highly regulated, taxed to death and are the essence of the spirit of London. They are obliged to comply with the now very strict emission rules for London and I can't see for the life of me why they should not be allowed to join in and recover some of their investment from the Games, a significant opportunity for them which will not again be available in their lifetime.

The black cab and private hire have the same over arching regulation G. To say private hire are unregulated is simply wrong.
They should not be allowed to join in for the simple reason that was put forward earlier, the transport system can't cope over that two weeks so they are using bigger vehicles instead of 5 person carriers. Thats how I see it.
Whether it is right or wrong to ban them from doing their job depends on peoples views. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys as for them two weeks I will be going nowhere near the capital.

sorry is it not a restriction to operate? a black cab has to be licenced by the councils? i wonder how you or anyone else would feel if for two weeks you were banned from using your normal rute to work as there was a cycle race every day? i am sure that you would be ok with that :notes:

To start with, no need to be sorry.
Yep it is a restriction. Yep they have to be licensed. They are licensed so that the cab is safe to use and the driver is on the balance of probabilities not going to harm the member of the public. That is all the licensing scheme is for, public safety.
Nottingham City centre has been banned for all cars except black cabs, buses and trams for a few years now. How do I feel about it? Makes it quicker getting in and out, so I applaud the idea. So I am well ok with that. Not the answer you were hoping for?

Yep I am alright Jack. As for the cabbies, tough decisions need tough answers. Unfortunately it has not gone the way of the cabbies this time. I am sure they are not going to starve over them two weeks

Are you really telling me that the cheeky London cabbie would give up looking for work elsewhere for these two weeks? They would be unwilling to look in a different area?
If thats right then they deserve to struggle with their bills. I go where the work is, they have transport they can do the same.

is the rest of London coming to a stop then Dave dunno
They make a two week change due to an historic event happening in the Capital. If they don't like it, then they have 12 months to move to somewhere else.
Do you really expect me to believe that Londoners cannot adapt to a bit of out of the ordinary occurence for two weeks? I bet the Londoners from the Blitz would look on these new Londoners and say to themselves, what a bunch of whingers

I am not affected by a lot of things that happen in this country Star. I am alright Jack with those issues as well.
Is it selfish of me to not be affected by the Games or the plight of the London cabbie? Not at all, I am governed by circumstance in my location, job, and interests. None of them would be affected by these issues.........or should I move to London for the Games, change jobs and only travel by black cab so I become unselfish?
Dave_Notts
not often i am here...
something just in relation to the original question....
I am not sure how many people are away... but there is actually a national "free to air" sports list that must be shown on free tv....
there is an "A list" of sporting events that must be at least shown live and a "B list" that must at least be shown on highlight....
the A list is.... Olympic Games,Fifa World Cup Finals,European Football Championships,FA Cup Final,Scottish FA Cup Final,Wimbledon (finals weekend),The Grand National,The Derby,Rugby League Challenge Cup Final,Rugby World Cup Final
the B list is.... Cricket Test matches played in England,Non-finals at Wimbledon,Six Nations Rugby matches (involving home nations),All other Rugby World Cup matches,Commonwealth Games,World Athletics Championship,Cricket World Cup (finals, semi-finals and matches involving home nations),The Open Golf Championship,The Ryder Cup
they are considering putting the home ashes series on the "A" list but that decision has been delayed till after switchover..... at which point there is actually due to be another review.....
