the first british death from swine flu was reported today !

That is true but it also states she had other medical problems. Which could mean it went some way towards her death.
Putting this into some kind of context....eight people every day die on our roads.
Now since the " outbreak " of Swine flu, this is the first death. If you were to count up how many people have died on our roads, since this flu strain was first mentioned, it would be a heck of a lot.
Seems people are more concerned with Swine flu, that the death toll on our roads. dunno
actually i am very concerned about the death toll on our roads having just lost someone very close due to a road traffic accident
so far swine fever hasnt caused me or my family any problems altho iv had to make sure we are prepared at work should it infect anyone there, but the death of someone close due to a road traffic accident has caused us all a very traumatic and upsetting time and has altered all our lives forever
however im sure the family of anyone who has died from swine fever feels the same as we do right now

So do people have to die before it becomes a disease worthy of serious action confused:

Of course not...what a silly reply.
All I am trying to point out is I feel people are scaremongering with this issue.
There are what 60 million people in this country, and how many have swine flu? 500 600?
I just think some need to put this thing into some kind of logical context.
I will see if this " pandemic " actually happens in the winter months, but a bit like bird flu,it will just fly off into the sunset, waiting for the " experts " at the World Health Organisation, to flap the next time a virus raises it's head.
Sorry but have heard this many times, and maybe being a cynic, I think it is being blown out of all proportion.
Unless someone can convince me that it is a serious issue, worthy of how many million leaflets printed, and masks by the million?
I am more scared about catching something in my local hospital to be honest.

Tell that to the parents of the children who attend the schools in the Birmingham area that have been affected by Swine Flu then.......Or is that a silly reply wink

It is not just Birmingham schools that have been affected.
Of course it is a worry for parents but....one person has died not thousands, and treated it is unpleasant but I stll think it is blown out of all proportion.
Time will tell eh? In five years time when like bird flu, it is a distant memory,I wonder where the " scaremongers " will be?
Cos they will never admit they were wrong, as per usual.

When dealing with any advice regarding bacteria or virus then it can only be done on a risk based approach.
It depends on whether they mutate or not. This is the million dollar question as nobody will ever know until it explodes into a problem.
Probability is not an exact science so they will never be right all the time...........but they can warn people what can or could happen. Give people the information and they can take the choices for themselves. Or they can just ignore it and live in total ignorance and blame others that they didn't know if it does break out.

Maybe thats because precautions have been taken so perhaps the "scaremongering" has been to good effect....

there was a guy on the radio the other day saying how they are all set to deal with this and have all the things set. he also mentioned that they did two years ago when he worked in a certain department.
why two years ago? was something going on then that we did not know about. or is this another foot and mouth preplanned thing?
whips
maybe that was bird-flu?
or bird-in-mouth?

Okay.... so now we are almost 10,000 cases in, and 13 deaths in.... are we now anymore nervous than we were before???
Just speaking to a friend and it sounds like her son has it, so because her son friend stayed last night, the 3 of them are now confined for the next 7 days and the tamiflu is being sent out......

Nope.
There are still eight people killed on our roads EVERY day of the equates to nearly 3000 every year. Also in 2007 there were over people injured on the roads.
Does that kind of put things into perspective? In the last ten days 80 people have been killed.
Most of those people that have died had underlying health problems. Swine flu was not the main cause of their deaths so....I think three people have now been linked with this that caused their deaths.
How many people die every winter through our normal flu outbreak? I cannot guess the figures but I bet it runs into hundreds if not thousands every year.
Sorry but I am a lot more concerned about the figures on our roads, or the infections you catch from a hospital that have killed far more people than swine flu has and probably will.
50% of all Mexico's income comes from Acapulco and cancun and these two places are the playground for north america.
Three months ago ALL tourism stopped overnight and the effect on the Mexican economy was devastating. The Mexicans called it economic warfare because there had not been a single case of swine flu in either Acapulco or Cancun.
This is an over exageration and the US government is using it to portray a 'stay at home and spend at home' message as a way of combating recession - but really it isn't fair.
It's actually kinda sad to hear people with this thing die due to what essentially amounts to "complications." The numbers don't bother me as much as knowing there are confirmed cases in the local area, but life trundles along regardless.
I guess in the end, I can't begrudge nature for trying to trim the human population yet again. As long as the flu doesn't interact with my allergies and kill me, I'm happy to let it, and those fighting it, go about their business.

If the question is how do we know it is your birthday, try looking in the Boudoir....
last week i came home from work, more shattered than usual, didnt want to eat and slept. This went on for 2-3 days and i had a banging headache all the time.
my daughter also had the same thing.
i put it down to the constant change in weather, presures at work etc, And i got on with life.
my nephew came home same symptoms and his mum calls the drs, over the phone they say could be swine flu, dont go out, get a flu buddy to collect tammi flu from a chemist we will fax a perscription to and stay in.
ok im not saying he had swine flu, im not saying i didnt.
but thats the thing,no one is actually checking any more, no swabs, just presumption.
now i understand there are some serious cases and im sorry to those who have been ill or lost lives, but the mear sniffle or headache and its swine flu now.
i have even heard people call call up the drs, give the vauge symptons, and call in work and are having a week off. no one is checking.
this will push the figures up.

Are you a person who is bored with all this talk of swine flu and how little it seems to have made a difference when compared to "Normal flu" Or do you think the horrors are yet to come? What do you think should be done or is enough already being done?
What I'd like to know is that if, as the government is telling us, the country is well prepared with enough doses of Tamiflu by the end of the year then why we can't have the option of choosing to be vaccinated rather than waiting for the flu to be rife? And according to the Dublin herald, 100,000 doses are at risk of being dumped because they'll be out of shelf life. Why the hell not start doling it out tout suit eo the nation then? The most vulnerable first of course.
I'm sick of seeing Sir Ian Dolaldson on the TV, talking for ever and saying absolutely nowt! The truth is they haven't got a clue so what is the point of bandying around meaningless statistics? All it does is hightens people's fears.
I also heard a doctor on the radio say that Tamiflu isn't the medecine that everyone thinks, as it only lessens the symptoms by a day. WTF dunno
