shoe bomber....underpants bomber.....yemini bra bomber ? what do you all think ?
If they say there is a terrorist alert, then I for one would rather no chances were taken.
I never go to Bluewater on a weekend, as I still believe that one day....
If we ignore the intelligence services then that is a dangerous game to play.
I would much rather be " safe than sorry ".
Another one is coming soon. Where who knows, but it is coming.
To scoff at this is dangerous, because the next bomb that goes off COULD be in a town near you.
I don't panic about these things, but try to avoid heavily populated places like Bluewater.

I think going to work on an underground train Gulson, would make a lot of people fearful, especially when they release terrorist alerts.
I think from what I have read and seen that at the moment the only ~" threat " is from Islamic extremists..... unless you can name others that are a threat?

Yes the other threat is our security services, they are just as dangerous when on the underground..
Nice to see some have faith in our security system Bluefish.
I really do not understand that comment...not at all.

Jean Charles de Menezes
Ok one life lost which of course is not acceptable, but some would say had he not of ran, or had he of returned home when his visa expired etc etc.
We at that time were on a very high state of alert after I think 52 innocent people were butchered on 7/7, and countless others injured. I really do not know what you think they should have done on that day?
They should have no doubt approached him very calmly in a controlled manner, and asked him ever so nicely if her was carrying anything that was likely to detonate if he pulled the pin. Come on....these guys are trained to kill if need be.
Yes his death was sad but in their eyes after 7/7, he ran and they in that situation opened fire. Remember as far as I know nobody was charged with killing him..or am I wrong?
What about the countless lives the security forces save, when they arrest would be terrorists planning bombing campaigns?

No of course it is not, but I see you fail to answer the rest of my comment though.
So easy for us sitting in our computer chairs to say what we would have done, IF we was in that situation.
None of us can say what we would have done, but their JOB is to protect the public and I believe that is what they thought they were doing under those circumstances, at that particular time.
So are you going to give me an answer to the rest or only answer the bit you had an answer too?

Of coarse I fully understand what you are saying, but these are what I guess you would call mitigating circumstances. But to ME it is not a defence, its excuses for poor intelligence. To me, it was murder.
There have been many contradictions as to his clothing, whether he did actually run and if there were any police warnings. I think, bearing in mind he was confronted by plain clothes officers, running is a legitimate reaction, but to my knowledge, not yet a capital offence.

Unfortunately Kenty, this is not how it happened. At no point did he run, in fact he did nothing that was suspicious, apart from living in the same block of flats that the man the police were watching did. It was a catalogue of mistakes on the police's behalf that lead to Mr Menezes' death and it's a disgrace that no-one was ever found to be at fault.

Regrettably, they'd already had Saddam Hussain hung after an illegal occupation of Iraq so they couldn't blame it on him.

I feel at this point perhaps I should also point out that I am not anti establishment or anti security forces, but when mistakes take place some one should pay and things then be put in place to avoid the same happening again.
If no one is ever held to account for such major mistakes then they will happen again, murder is murder, no matter by who hands!

Did we have the same kind of terrorist alert when the IRA were more active? I can remember the "Be alert" posters, but was there such a fuss? I can't remember for sure.

No we didn`t ...but they were white and Christian rolleyes
On 21st November 1974 I was in a pub about half a mile from the mulberry Bush and the Tavern in the town and I can assure you that after witnessing that carnage most brummies took terror alerts very seriously indeed !!!!

It's difficult to know what to think. You have no alternative but to place basic trust in the authorities, but they can and do get it wrong sometimes.
Plim neutral

In 1989 when i was at uni in central london we used to pass a government building which in the foyer diplayed the alert status,we were always intriuged as to wether today was a red orange or even a black were alerts back then, but the media was bored with the story, i can imagine the same will happen with the current story once the mediia finds somthing new.
I look forward to that day, I feel we add importance to the wrong people with all the attention
Don't quote me, but I think the publication of the formal risk assessments is a relatively new thing. It used to be regularly leaked to the press of course, and they'd run stories about 'the risk of a bombing has gone up' but the publication of it on a routine basis is a fairly new thing.

Thankfully that is only your opinion.
The CPS and the other relevant authorities saw it as something different.
IF they had of charged and convicted the person/persons of murder, as a scenario IF all the other armed officers then decided that it was not worth the crap that carrying guns now has, and then decide not to be a firearms person....where would we be?
They made a judgement on the information they had and acted upon it in a split second....If we never had those out there willing to blow us up, then this would never have happened.
Want to blame anyone, then blame the fundamentalists out there, for putting us in this situation.

The met were found guilty of health and safety breaches
he had been followed for miles, so no spit second judgement there
Innocent man dead and all i see are poor excuses for incompetence
Why would I blame the fundamentalists? If I was run over by a police car chasing a speeder I would not blame the speeder

This does sound a little disingenuous coming from you.
Personally, i feel way more threatened by this government, their policies and their various forces than any potential threat from religious extremists
