i used to have a copy of the original tubular bells on vinyl, it was the first record released on virgin records way back in '73 and had the catalogue number v2001. when the cd was released in 1983 i bought a copy (catalogue number cdv2001) and still have it, it sounds as good today a it did then.
Viv Stanshall (bonzo dog doo dah band, who remembers them ?) was the master of ceremonies, towards the end of part one he introduces the instruments......
grand piano...............
reed and pipe organ..............
glockenspiel..................
bass guitar................
double speed guitar...................
two slightly distorted guitars.................
mandolin......................
spanish guitar and introducing acoustic guitar..........
plus.........tubular bells
those are the only words on the original tubular bells, i've never heard any of the versions that have lyrics and can't imagine why the music needs them.
Garlands and Society classic " do i look like slut? yeah thats right do i look like slut"
From "So Hard" by the Pet Shop Boys, a bouncy little number about a couple who have come to terms with the way they both shag around...
I double-cross you
And you
Get mysterious mail
I've tried hard not to shock you
It's hard not to
With the things I could say
You lock your letters
In a box
And you've hidden the key
I go one better
I'm indebted
To a contact magazine
I'm always hoping
You'll be faithful
But you're not, I suppose
We've both given up smoking
'Cause it's fatal
So whose matches are those?
Think I might have said this before - Earthchild may recognise
I'm a man without a soul, honey
Who lost it while parading it
In a town full of thieves
Y'see I didn't wanna be
With any people I know
But God knows I didn't wanna be alone
I thought if I acted like someone else
I'd feel more comfortable with myself
So I showered down
Left my little room
Jumped in my car
(for protection from hostility)
Well, it ain't easy to be bold
In an unknown city
I was feeling strong mouthed
But weak willed
When I ran into the cure for my ills
Don't tell me what your name is
I want your body not your mind
I want a feeling worth paying for
Before I say good-bye
But as I was talking
I couldn't look her in the eyes
I just kept wondering
How many men
Unleashed their frustration
Between her thighs
There'll be no sleep 'til the morning
There'll be no lullabies
Coz the Devil's borrowed my clothes
Just for tonight
Well, my adrenaline was curdling like cream
As I was being led by the hand
Through the sound of sirens
And the distant noise of some drunken jazz band
Through the stench of disinfectant
That infected my head
Through the darkness of a corridor
And into a strangers bed
Well, I didn't wanna hurt your feelings honey
But I couldn't suppress my own
I had to pull myself out of this nosedive
By proving something to myself
She was lying on her back
With her lips parted
Squealing like a stuffed pig
I was going through the motions
Faking the emotions
Wriggling around like a lizard in a tin
Trying so hard to cleanse myself
I was turning into somebody else
I was trying so hard to please myself
I was turning into somebody else
I was trying so hard to be myself
I was turning into somebody else
Come my love, with your desire
Out of the blue ... and into the fire
The The - Out of the Blue (Into the Fire)
Mmm, very darkly horny song...
a personal favourite of mine, from a little known acoustic wonder, nick harper, son of roy...."i know where i am when i need me"
'We can speak louder than ignorance, 'cause we speak in silence every time our eyes meet.'
Willy Mason, 'Oxygen'
"When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right in to space
On the roof it's peaceful as can be
And there the world below can't bother me"
Up On The Roof, written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin.
Quote by blonde
I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

OMG Sam
I was singing this while I was scrolling down everyone elses ready to put my reply in. Now I won't have to since you said it sooo eloquently kiss

I love these lyrics too....trouble is...I was there that morning when my father passed away....I was 16 (obviously didn't get to tell him all the things I had to say), he was 39 and it was Fathers Day....huh.....xxx
Edit: and on my 40th birthday...it was a very strange feeling knowing I'd out lived my father...when I was 16 he seemed really old at 39....now I can't imagine dying at this age....!! apologies for the slight hijack...x
CC.... sad
I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live
But I have never seen these streets so fresh
Washed with morning rain
I have seen this face a thousand times
Every morning of my life
But I never saw these eyes so clear
Free of doubt and pain
Like the whole world has been made again
I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live...
And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Is being made again by you
And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Has been made again by you
Like a bright new morning
Like a bright new day
I woke up from a deep sleep
I woke up from a bad dream
To a brand new morning
To a brand new day
Like the whole world has been made again

I love the lyrics of
"thethe" Infected album particularly heartland, so contempory

------------------------
HEARTLAND
Beneath the old iron bridges
Across the Victorian parks
And all the frightened people
Running home before dark
Past the Saturday morning cinema
That lies crumbling to the ground
And the piss stinking shopping centre
In the new side of town
I've come to smell the seasons change
And watch the city as the sun goes down again
Here comes another winter
Of long shadows and high hopes
Here comes another winter
Waitin' for Utopia
Waitin' for hell to freeze over
This is the land where nothing changes
The land of red buses and blue blooded babies
This is the place where pensioners are
And the hearts are being cut from the welfare state
Let the poor drink the milk
While the rich eat the honey
Let the bums count their blessings
While they count the money
So many people can't express what's on their minds
Nobody knows them, nobody ever will
Until their backs are broken, their dreams are stolen
And they can't get what they want
Then they're gonna get angry
Well, it ain't written in the papers
But it's written on the walls
The way this country's dividing to fall
So the cranes are moving on the skyline
Tryin' to knock down ... this town
But the stains on the heartland
Can never be removed
From this country that's sick, sad and confused
Here comes another winter
Of long shadows and high hopes
Here comes another winter
Waitin' for Utopia
Waitin' for hell to freeze over
The ammunition's been passed
And the Lord's been praised
But the wars on the televisions
Will never be explained
All the bankers gettin' sweaty
Beneath their white collars
As the pound in our pocket
Turns into a dollar

From the Clash - White man In Hammersmith Palais
"If Adolf Hitler flew in today, they'd send a limousine anyway"
It has to be heard in the context of the song.
Not a brilliant song but got me through a particularly dark time in my life at around age 19
"there's only one way of life and that's your own....that's your own ..that's your own"
The levellers
Here's mine, with the last line being my favourite.
It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her
It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever
It's from 'Lover, You Should've Come Over' by Jeff Buckley.
Quote by Naughty Wigan Couple
Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I’m caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace on sweat
I hear you calling and it’s needles
And pins
I want to hurt you just to hear you
Screaming my name
Poison, Alice Cooper

bugger , ya beat me to it! lol

To be honest I was gona paste tons of his stuff but thought it would amount to a hijack, pure quality imho
How about a really annoying, really bad line:
I've got soul but I'm not a soldier"
Of course I could be mistaken in how the word is meant to be spelt but even so I've no idea why anyone would think someone with "sol" would be a soldier.
Of course now I can't think of a good line, I guess there's just too many to remember them as individuals.
Quote by Hillfolk
ok as this place seems to be getting more and more obscure, musicaly rolleyes
I think it is now safe for one of the OLDIES of the site to post this.
He was the wizard of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him one night wandering
He told me tales and he drank my wine
Me and my magic man kinda feeling fine
He had a cloak of gold
And eyes of fire
And as he spoke I felt a deep desire
To free the world of its fear and pain
And help the people to feel free again
q guitar solo (i think)

One song that has helped me through a bad patch of a year or so when a lot of people were relying on me heavily was Strong by robbie....
You think that I'm strong you're wrong
You're wrong
I'll sing my song my song
Not sure I understand why but this seemed to give me the strenght to keep up with things even when I was getting major grief at work and couldnt let anyone know.
First post anywhere from me so here goes...
That's why I sometimes stand alone at parties
That's why I drink so I'll be who they think I am
