I travell quite a lot in my job as a courier
and allmost on every village ..town.. city..
there are the signs TO LET NO INGOING ..
Is this the demise of our country pub ..
a nice pint bag of crisps good banter with the locals
a lot of pubs where i live in Leicestershire are turning in to private houses ....
Will there be a country pub in the future ?
another piece of what was once our culture gone forever ........

just as an add on to my thread there was a pub that was in the serial " auf widersehen pet" thats now been flattend and is now flats for sale
I suppose the land that the pub stands on is worth more than the pub can generate in income £££££££
What a shame to lose a cultural heritage that the " Local " has to offer and that land is more valuable than a heritage ......
I have made many a meet in a " Local" if they dissapear we might have to meet in asda ????

I guess with the demise of the country pub, we will also see the demise of traditionally brewed beer to be replaced with the flat 'orrible stuff in steel kegs which last forever.
That is such a shame; country pubs are often the life and soul of local communities without which they will surely die too sad

Yeah fuck all but country pubs here, i miss the sawdust from the smoke meself
Evolution...........
Things change and life goes on in a different direction.
Don't be crusty and yearn for how things used to be - be happy that institutions that divided men and women for more than a generation and allowed people to slowly kill themselves with lung cancer are now consigned to history.
Good pubs are becoming cafe/restaurants where you can get coffee, alcohol and/or food and where there is a natural over supply the properties are being demolished because they are surplus to the community needs.
Demand will fuel the supply of anything and everything that the current generation wants and seemingly a pub on every street corner is not what we want anymore.

Only time will tell, I do understand that the smoking ban has refelcted in a pubs trade and coupled with drinking and driving etc etc etc

Several round here are closed.
One that caught fire 2 years ago still has not been sorted out.
I have also seen some town centre pubs closed / with to let boards/ sale boards out side.
seems to be nationwide pubs closing
The ones that are surviving round here are the nationals like weatherspoons and only because of food .
As for Leicester city centre dont know as I dont go in there much and especially at night
we have the Narborough road area that seems to be a hub of nightlife that is bucking the trend .
But thats due to cheap beer and students .......

I think pubs started dying many moons ago and the majority have staggered along supported by hardened heavy regular drinkers. I find most pubs unpleasant at best and downright horrible at worst. The industry has itself to blame for failing to provide an environment that people want to be in.
