But how do we stop the building of yet more towns, cities, factories etc in the countryside?

By reducing the need and dependency on land due to overcrowding in cities? By giving better tax breaks to companies to invest in already developed areas where unemployment is a big factor? Plus the usual copy and paste answers of immigrations and benefit dependence.

Well I might not agree with you about fox hunting bluefish but I certainly agree with you here and I fail to see how anyone cannot agree.
But how do we stop the building of yet more towns, cities, factories etc in the countryside? It seems to me that we can't. All we can do is hope that the population decrease.
Incidentally, I come from a city (London) but love the country!

Long term, I really am not sure how, beyond what Essex puts forward, but we are only an island and at some point we have to stop building more roads, rail links etc.
As a side note, in my view it is due to the swelling urban areas that many species require management from humans, our intervention has upset the balance.
Here, quite local to me, is another matter of concern, for those with a love of our native red squirrel. I fear the buzzard will have to be controlled in some way, but people will argue for months as to whether the problem actually exists, rather than listen to those who are local. With the buzzard being protected this will be a complicated drawn out proses, lets hope it does not take too long
An interesting artical
Next month, the Government will publish the results of its consultation on a control policy for badgers. It is recommending culling by licence in the short term, combined with vaccination which will take much longer to have an effect. Meanwhile, we all should think about the perils of leaving the destiny of any animal (or plant) to the whims of human sentiment. If we really wanted to save badgers, we wouldn't drive so fast. Singlemindedness isn't such an asset for a badger crossing a road in the dark.
We of the North Wales Night Driving club wish to point out that our hobby is the best and most humane way to control badgers, ensuring a decent cull of the short sighted and feeble badgers who have no business being on roads late at night unless they habitually travel from farm to farm to spread TB.
See our website for handy recipes including roadkill kebab.

I have not yet encountered the Afro-Caribbean, guitar carrying night drivers, but heard much of there good work wink
Ahhhh our specialist equipment (properly termed a Badger Spoon and used to finish off any half squashed badgers and to scoop them up) is often mistaken for a guitar. The necessary face paint for night time manoeuvres makes ethnicity difficult to determine.
My avatar depicts a traditionally clad and equipped night driver.

Super dairy poses unacceptable environmental risk

I do not like the idea of these either, taking the two reports together above, natural methods always out-way intensive methods

An interesting artical on how mad the world is getting over guns and gun crime.

Some years back we saw the banning of legally held hand guns, with what result? As far as I can tell, no gain what so ever, it would seam the criminals never handed there hand guns in dunno

Illegal hand guns got cheaper to buy cos everybody was getting rid of them when they became illegal. :dunno:
I expect the cost went up, legally held guns will have been handed in for destruction, leaving now only illegally held ones, bit tricky to shop round for the best price
Did the powers that be, think that the criminals would think, oh shit, better get rid of this illegal hand gun, now its against the law to own one.
One need only look to our cousins in the USA to see how our draconian gun control laws have foolishly lost us the opportunity to remove some of the less desirable elements from society by natural gun crime attrition.

Clearly I misjudged you - I felt it perfectly possible for you to come out, in all seriousness, with a stupid statement like that.
lol

Way too subtle for a country bumpkin such as I dunno
The number of people accepted as homeless in rural areas has rocketed by 25% in the past year – as demand for affordable homes stands at record levels.
New figures also reveal that homelessness in the countryside has increased at a faster rate than in urban areas, which recorded an 11 % increase

This came as a shock to me, I had no idea the problem was getting so bad.
Rather than me clutter up the whole of the C/A with my countryside issue's, I thought I would bring this thread back near the top and pop any new issues I think could be of interest to debate in here lol
I think a more agresive approch may be required to prevent further problems
