It is evident that newspapers are dying out. Am I alone in thinking this is a good thing?
They are not really going to go anywhere though are they?
Someone will come up with a new model for how we consume newspapers, perhaps an online subscription, with the emergence of tablet computers and e-readers your daily newspaper will just be electronic.
On the whole though, they are needed as part of a free society.
I would be sorry to see the papers disappear, just as I'm sorry to see the state of what passes for journalism they currently peddle
I rely on the London Free Press to wipe my arse. Recycling, doncha know.

oh, I us the words "free press" loosely... rather like my bowels

Is there any evidence of that at all??
I could if I wanted provide figures of how many people on a daily basis by one....it is millions.
Why you would think having no newspapers is a good thing, well to be honest it is quite evident.
Well this is certainly good news...

I am suprised it sells that many to be honest......drivel of the highest order. lol
I haven't bought a paper in years - apart from when there is a good DVD free with it. I often don't read it and recycle it as soon as I get the DVD off it. I get the free paper locally but that has very little of interest in it and the events it advertises are often over by the time I get it.
I have little or no use for newspapers.

that would and could make it a lot easier for the goverment to manipulate what news is feed in your general direction love them or hate them im not sure this would be a good thing
Problem with "popular" papers of today, Mirror, Sun etc. Is that they carry very little news. Its mostly news about "celebrities" or "columnists" telling you what they think of the world.
Went through the Mirror the other day and less than 10% was what I'd call news, ie a report about a happening somewhere which did not involve a "celeb". I'd be happy to forgo newspapers, but Shel likes to read them while having a cuppa.
Who was it said "Religon is the opium of the masses" should re-define it to be "Celebrity is the opium of the masses" at least as far as some newspapers are concerned.

I read about a computer that was being used develop artificial intelligence. Apparently it has been programmed to identify the obvious flaws in newspaper reports and performs better than most adult humans yet its measurable intelligence is equivalent to a fruit fly. Makes ya wonder dont it. Thank you all for your sensible on topic contributions.
The papers I get nowadays, tend to be the free ones. They will thrive as long as firms pay to advertise in them
Plim
think newspapers must be as I'm moving house soon and been asking everyone I know for newspapers to pack my stuff up with and cant find a single person who buys a newspaper...............
