You just don't get it do you Kent? And do you know what? I don't think you ever will. Not if you can ignore all the straight talking Res just put forward and carry on regardless. Had that been written to me, I would have taken some time to reflect. Pondered my thinking. Explored the reasons why I thought the way I did.
But no. You'll just continue to ignore posts which contradict your view as it suits (I asked you a question a page or so ago, btw. You may not have noticed it. You may have chosen to ignore it.) and cherry pick from the scandal rags.
.

Not just Res tho Witchy, I've been pretty straight forward from the onset of this (and other) thread. I've posed questions and looked at all angles AND even agreed a question he posed.
I seriously pointed out that I don't think any of the posts are read in depth because they are tainted by a personal viewpoint that 'just will not budge' smile
I completely agree with you Witchy on the 'pondering' - I have often had my thinking challenged and you know what? I love it, I think it makes me a better person when I've been nudged into looking at things differently, it opens my eyes.
Some people's eyes, unfortunately will remain firmly shut or maybe just shut on the 'right' side wink
Didn't mean to gloss over you Mar- you've contributed with wisdom & honesty...it's just that Res filled the screen. Gobshite. rolleyes

And the more I think of it- I knew loads of teens who fell pregnant during the Thatcher regime.

Well some might be, but to insinuate, that people buy it for 2 free tickets " is quite frankly laughable.

Ermmmm . . . nope. lol I buy it twice a year for a fortnight, cos it gets us holidays down Glastonbury way last year, Norfolk and Scotland the year before that, and we're waiting to see where we're going this year. smile
As for headlines like pregancies 'rocket under New Labour, they're not the only paper using words like that to be fair, but it's hardly accurate. Even the Guardian said they'd soared but last time I went to school and did GCE maths, a mere 6.4% rise over one year from % of the under-16 population to % of the population hardly constitutes a rocket. Neither does the mere 2.4% rise in pregnancies from % to % of the under-18 population. Without further evidence that it's part a prolonged upward trend, all you can say is it seems to be a blip in a generally downward trend.
It's probably worth noting that the trend over the last 20 odd years had been surely and steadily upwards, so this Labour government you so disparage is the first government in decades that has actually presided over any kind of downward trend at all, which strongly suggests that they are doing something right.
As for what the Tory party is going to do about the problem, I can find nothing but the following statement from the Conservative Party website:

As a statement from a shadow minister it's about the most meaningless piece of waffle going. What exactly does it mean, and what are they going to do about it? dunno
Neil x x x ;)
If you work and your boss offered you 6.4% in a payrise, I am sure you would not think that stingy. In fact that kind of rise is quite high in many circumstances.
ANY kind of rise with the education that kids are now getting, is terrible.
This Government and some on here have bleated about 2010 figures being halved. Well that is laughable now is it not? When the figures come out next year, what happens if the figures have risen again, and the targets are NOT going to be met, but quite the opposite?
No doubt the very same people will bleat on about excuses for this and that.
I asked the original question about the Government and teen pregnances, as are they doing enough. Well obviously not, and if they are then kids are just not listening. When figures have shown pregnances lowering they are quick to say " our policies are working ". Now they have risen and I think will rise again next year, where are their answers? The only things they seem to offere are excuses.
I had ny question clearly answered last week. Teen preganances are rising. The test will come in the next three years as to the trends. If they increase over the next three years, what will peoples excuses be then?
For the record.....someone I know had an abortion on Saturday morning. There were 27 others having the same procedure. Most were under 25. 27 in one day at one hospital? Obviously I do not know all the whys, but that does seem a lot. Also being a tad cynical about Government figures, I would not be suprised if this years rise figures, have been supressed somewhat.....they have been before.
but what if you were offered a 6% raise on the LAST raise of 2.5%?
that's not all that much is it?
If last years pay-rise was £10/month, this year you'll have
Is that what Neil is saying?
lp
Kent, if my boss had offered me 6.4% last year, I'd have laughed in his chuffin' face! lol
<<<< got 25% pay rise in 2008.
I'll put it another way Kent. The actual rise as a real number represented as 6.4% works out at another 370 girls. 370 Kent. 8196 girls under the age of 16 in total became pregnant, which is too many on one level admittedly, but doing the maths it's 8196 girls out of almost 990 000, which means something like 980 000 girls are being responsible, and aren't getting themselves pregnant. Too much is made of it IMO. It is not the massive social crisis some would have us believe when you look at the actual numbers, in my opinion.

I just chopped up the Sun so thought I'd share!

Ah I see............I get it now.
All you lot are right and I AM WRONG.......hmmmmmm.
Well I will live in my little world, and you lot can live in yours.
I bet the same people think there is no knife crime, or ferel gangs, or that we have even had people on the moon , or probably even believe that we only have 25 million people living in the UK....but that may well be for another thread.
What makes me laugh the loudest is that people really do believe that the papers make everything up.....that they scaremonger. It could be the Sun or the Observer, it matters not. People close their eyes but It makes me wonder where exactly they get thier information from? Womans realm or perhaps OK magazine.
Mar can I ask what makes YOU think you are right?
That bottle of wine is nicely chilled btw.
lol
And there was me thinking I was being called something else, cheeky mare!
LP, come on. If I was a banker, international or otherwise, d'you really think I'd be daft enough to admit it on 'ere? confused I'd get bloody lynched! Just been learning all about percentages and margins and other boring businessy stuff like that lately. Comes in handy tho occasionally. ;)

And there you go again Kenty, with sweeping statements you can't back up that suggest that everyone else is really as stupid as you seem to suggest. I don't believe for one minute that newspapers make up the statistics they get from the government. What I know to be fact though is that any single statistic you care to mention can be spun any number of ways, depending on the personal bias of the journalist writing the article, and the political bias of the newspaper / proprietor that pays their wages. Some of us are very well aware of that, and read from multiple sources to try and get as much balance as possible, and in so doing at least try to get some way close to the truth of the matter. It's not difficult honestly. ;)

damn, and there was I gearing up to ask for a bail-out option.

That I will agree on but.....people on here seem to believe the Governments figures all too easy. The spin and the lies they use.#
We all know both the newspapers AND the Government can spin figures anyway they like. But people seem to believe some and not others, when both are guilty of it.
I would rather believe a newspaper...any one of them, than this Government, or any Government to be honest.
Call me cynical but do people really believe a Government would actually release accurate figures regarding teen pregnancies, if it was massivly higher? I think not....manipulate the figures anyway they like.
We have seen it many times before, and I believe that with teen pregnancies, my opinion is that after spending millions of pounds on " trying " to get it right, would they really admit to failure? If you can find a politician that would admit to getting anything wrong, I will eat a pair of my socks.....with salt added of course. wink
The only time when they ever do admit getting anything wrong, is when one of those papers that everyone hates, catches them out and they have no option but to come clean.....remember the lost discs no so long ago...all that data on them? Oh right of course it was just the tabloids making it up....again.
Can somebody direct me to a past thread where the efforts of the less bigoted have helped Mr K change his views or opinions to any extent.
If anybody can I will join the Tory party.

The point I was making above is that people ask you questions and you never answer them.
I find your comment about where I would get my info from offensive actually, I'm an educated person who knows exactly where to source my information from AND to make sure it's correct and up to date with statistics! Actually, where do YOU get YOUR information from to back up your comments?
So, for the record I get my information from:
a) Work (including Journals of the medical kind not the newspaper  )
b) Nursing Standard (oh yeah the 'rag' I get delivered  )
c) GP's and Consultants whom I work with
d) Government websites (oh yeah hmmm the ones I posted for you  )
That wine ain't ever gonna be opened if you can't learn to agree to disagree or compromise or look at different perspectives once in a while
