Well it seems that Labour sent out " search parties " to get immigrants to come and work in the UK, reports Lord Mandelson in a report out yesterday.
" In a stunning confirmation that the Blair and Brown governments deliberately engineered mass immigration, the former Cabinet Minister and spin doctor said New Labour sought out foreign workers.
He also conceded that the influx of arrivals meant the party’s traditional supporters are now unable to find work ".
Nothing new here to be honest as most people knew this already, but now the truth is out in the open is anyone dumb enough to vote Labour again? Some people are calling for the likes of Bliar and Brown who deliberately engineered mass immigration, to be tried for treason against the State. Whilst that may be going a tad too far to expect, it is now confirmed that foreign immigrants were sought over and above British workers and the British population. So jobs for British workers as Brown so boldly put it, was just yet another lie in a long list of lies by the Labour party.
Now we have mass unemployment of 2,4 million approximately, with less than a million jobs on the job market. So not enough jobs to fill the unemployment stats, surely that should be a worry for the UK economy of now and the future?

You were a previous labour voter, on these pages you have regularly lambasted Tory right wing views but suddenly you are all right wing yourself quoting the Daily Mail and becoming all very ideologically right of centre. I am simply presuming the obvious - that your very public support of an extreme right wing political party is turning you into a bit of an extreme Tory - just like the Party you support.

I do think you need to read between the Daily Mail...lines...easy headlines just to scaremonger. did you notice the other newspapers never bothered with this story....oh I wonder why !!! If you read it carefully you will see Mr Mendelson says this was at a time of almost full employment. The people we went in search of were actually skilled staff that we didn't have available here. I know for example, that the Shropshire health authority went out and actively sought Phillipine trained nurses. ( I know this, as I was involved in the building of an accommodation block for them ) This was because the health authority at the time did not have enough trained nurses, or ones coming through the system. This was not cheap labour as you state....they were paid exactly the same as the regular English nurses. It was simply to quick fill a gap in staff levels they had.
As stated in the article, things are different now, unemployment is now much higher, and so there would be no need to go and do such a thing.
There will always be skills shortages in certain fields and industries.....sometimes we have to look further a field to fill that gap. This is generally because of the lack of newly trained staff coming through the ranks. Companies were only to often short sighted and didn't want the expense of training someone up. Hopefully with all the new apprentice systems being pushed forward now, we will have home grown talent to fill the skill shortages.

Yes these days the forums do seem to be more about pulling apart what anyone says with derogatory comments rather than good debate, I am so glad I have found another site and a better forum to play in, at least I don't feel the need to spend so much time here anymore all I see here is a mini house of commons, a lot of intelligent people taking childish snipes at everything the opposition says, sometimes even when what someone says if correct or sensible.
As for the bringing in of migrant labour, we have always done it and hope we always will, targetting people trained in areas where we are short of skilled staff is a good thing, open immigration in a Nation where financial benefits are so readily available is a bad thing in my humble opinion.
The guaranteed referendum on re-negotiation or exit from the EU is a good thing but if it is so important why is it going to be so long before we do it ?
Of course should we re-negotiate the EU rules we have to follow, then those negotations need to include te right situation on migrant workers coming to the UK, the right of abode in the UK for EU member state people and what benefits those people are entitled to when they do come here.

Dean. I read the article and do you really think that he would " joke " about such a thing? He made the comment and then slyly as per usual with him, added a joke term to his sentence. The comment was a serious one of that I have no doubt.
Mandelson is a horrid person that has been proved many times. I would not trust him to tell the truth if his own Mothers life depended on it.

It is going to take so long simply because Labour and and the Lib Dems do not want any such referendum. This means that the referendum must be an election issue and once elected the then new Conservative government will need time to re-negotiate the EU terms before putting those terms to the British public.
Everyone knows that the European experiment has lost its way and we are not the only country whose citizens are questioning the Brussels unelected nonsense. Cameron is taking a leading role in reform and it is a shame that Clegg and Miliband cannot bring themselves round to support reform moves. Europe needs reform and Britain should be at the heart of a free trade European market.
Interesting on Newsnight last night that Norway pays more to access the European market that we pay for EU membership and have no say in European trade policy. This was such a staggering revelation to me, I just don't understand why it has never been mentioned before by anyone. Also on Newsnight were German and Chinese trade Ministers arguing about European trade protectionist measures creeping in and this will NOT be good for anyone wanting to export into the EU from the outside.
I would not trust any of them to do the right thing for the country. Yes I would expect them to do the right thing for themselves, but that's about it.
