You certainly do not like the banks Guls. lol

got nothing against genuine controlled and regulated in the interests of society and legitimate bussiness, BANKS. got everything against total fraud and deception ponzi schemes that implode the world financial system with debt created out of thin air at interest that can never be repaid, that will cause at best penury for us and death, destruction and war for billions on the planet. AND RACISM serves that end !

Why are you bringing Zimbabwe and Goa into the debate? Their laws are different so a comparisson can not be drawn.
Sometimes I just have to ask Y?
Dave_Notts

That is confusing to me, what do you mean Dave?
Confusing you? I have confused myself lol
In the UK we have defined legislation backed up with a proved and tested legal system. Even though racism still exists, it is very much in the decline than when I was young(er). Goa (using the example above)seems to be going through a similar problem as were the South West of England and Wales when land and property was snapped up as second homes. It forced the price up and put locals out of the housing market. In Wales, the anti-English brigade got a toe-hold, and their voice became known as fighting the corner of the Welsh. IMO bollox, it was never about race, English, Welsh, colour, etc.......it was about no affordable housing for those who had to do the jobs in the area. This is IMO the same as Goa and it is not about race but affordable housing and land. Same with Zimbabwe, but the eejit who is president got people (white, European, Asian, etc)to buy land and farms and then encouraged the locals to seize it. Thats not racism but internal politics to keep him in power. If all other races left Zimbabwe he would start to divide and rule among the tribes in the country............but that is just my thoughts.......well you did ask lol

i'm a member of the human race and i am prejudiced towards people i dont like.
racism is promoted by the ruling elite through their corporate owned and controlled media and levers of state power with lies, distortions and exaggerations, preying on the backwardness and prejudices of the exploited classes as one of the methods to maintain division in their own interests. in my opinion. bit like getting people to believe in gnomes at the bottom of the garden, witch doctors, ju ju men and deity's really, preying on suspicion and backwardness.
if you want to believe it's the black, brown, yellow, big nosed, slitty eyed, catholic, protestant, muslim, bhuddist, non british man's fault for the shit your in, the fucker who got you to believe it is laughing all the way to the bank with an obscene bonus and everyone who believed him is heading for austerity with the rest of us.

Give me a clue - is there ANY subject in a thread that you won't trot the same old stuff out for? Tell you waht - I'll start one on ice-cream flavours and you can tell us how 'some people' are laughing all the way to the bank with their bonuses cos we are stupid enough to eat vanilla. :giggle:
"while rome burns" comes to mind foxy. but keep licking your ice cream, everthing is fine, "green shoots" ice cream, same ole same ole ice cream, coming out of recession ice cream (but the cornet is fragile), how about a "v" shaped ice cream or the in vogue "double dip" ice cream, a no job ice cream and a no school ice cream, a cut in benefits ice cream (just a cornet really) or a "gulson does'nt know what he's talking about on ANY subject and no one should pay any heed to what he's saying because he just keeps trottin out the same old stuff ice cream"
can you get a racist ice cream ?
Is racisim another word for opinion?
Hello browning.....how the devil are you matey?

Is racisim another word for opinion?

No.
I won't waste your or my time explaining the difference. What worries me is the number of people who truly think deriding/insulting/depriving somoeone of equal status/resources based on 'race' is actually acceptable under the false banner of 'opinion'.
Quote by browning

Not in my dictionary.
I think gulson has some point. all these things we feel sensitive about have become the tools for divide and rule, as they seem to be achieving the same purpose.
all these things we feel sensitive about should also make you realise they are 'human' things. feelings and ideas that connect through you. if you come to terms with them and what they mean to you, you will be confident in yourself.
listening to extreme arguments about these things pushes them away from your self realisation. you have to learn to live with the fact that you will be a bit racist, a bit sexist etc. knowing that makes it easier to monitor your own behaviour. you won't be able to eradicate it.

Perhaps because racism isn't about law, it's about attitudes and ignorance.

No, not in my view, we all have opinions of people. I think we only become racist, if/when we act on those opinions in a badly measured way, which effects others.

ok, i'll try my best,
I am a london bus driver, and in my experience of driving a bus I find black african women the most arrogant and rudest type of people I deal with. That is my opinion of them based on my experience of them.
Does that make me a racist?
I had a black african woman sneak on the bus through the back doors with a buggy today, when I told her to get off, she called me a racist!
I'm good kenty, just moved to a new place so been busy.
i think everyone experiences those gut reactions to different people's. and you can go around and think what you like.
in theory and given time you learn not to react quite so badly with each passing year and eventually acquire a good level of tolerance and understanding.
but it becomes racism the moment you seek out people similar to yourself and share in slagging off those you find are not to your liking.

Personal experience and context are really the overiding factors here.
I spend Saturday and Sunday mornings at boot fairs, I`m always there early and nowadays there is a heady mix racial stereotypes on display.....
Gangs of slightly obsequeous indian asians who can become extremely abusive and even violent at the drop of a hat...
Loose groupings of Poles, Serbs and various other East European farm workers who are generally aloof and arogant picking through the designer clothes and expensive looking chinzt for the girls and designer clothes and electric tools for the boys....
Weird pasty fat white English men poking about the records and CD`s , unassuming most of the time but able to elbow any fucker out of the way at the site of Ogden`s Nut Gone Flake !!!
Polite, middle aged English antique dealers quietly rummaging about in the backs of cars and making obnoxious remarks about the prices being asked .....
Women in full veils sweeping past malevolent looks from all the white English ...
Big black African origin men talking loudly on mobile phones....
Every stereotypical bit of behaviour you`ve ever heard about or read about or seen parodied in sitcoms is on open display....white arrogance, black arrogance, muslim arrogance ...any sort of fuckin rudeness and arrogance you care to name ...it`s all there...
My daughter , who has been coming to boot fairs with me all her life, hates the new one at Ebsfleet because all of the things mentioned above seem to be ten times worse than at any of the other fairs we go to.
So ....just depends on context really.

and still you go to these places twice a week on your days off
Why am I bitter and twisted brucie?
I am only giving an opinion based on my own experience.
Sadly, in all situations, we only remember the worst of our casual encounters. So we could pass any number of quiet, pleasant people of a particular group. But when we get barged out of the way by one of them the others fade into the mist of our memories.
The proportions of bad to good may be the same for all groups but add the bad encounter to a visually obvious group and we soon, if only subconciously, start feeling that 'that' group are all awful.

I think the word is often overused and used by some groups as a form of attack rather than deffence, not all are like that but some are.
I can remember watching a "police stop" style program on TV. where they were using PNC/ANPR technology (numberplate recognition) to detect drivers with no tax, and insurance. Sorry I can not remember where in the country they were but it was a Large City.
The Police had several people pulled into a lay-by who had been identified by the computer as driving without insurance or tax. A coloured lady who was pushing a pushchair past suddenly started shouting at the police for being racist's as all the person's who had been pulled in were not white skinned. She went on so much she was almost arrested her self.
Of coarse the police could not be held responsible for who they had pulled in, as that was down to the computer, and the driver's who happened to be using that road on that particular day.
@ Browning:
Please don't read this as having a go, because I'm not. I'm trying to challenge your interpretation of experience.
If every experience we have when meeting members of a social is negative, or we're told that they're going to be negative, then it can become a self-forefilling prophecy. Could it be that you already have an idea about how this group will behave and then look for people who support that idea? I'm guessing that the woman you described wasn't the only African woman to get on your bus that day. Her child may be teething and she might have had 4 hours sleep in the last 3 days because of it. Maybe because she was tired she made a mistake and came in the wrong doors and because she was at her wits end you copped for it. Who knows. dunno
It's a bit like the assumption that all youth are feral. confused Or all coppers are bastards ...... well.... confused (joke :lol2: bolt ) and frankly it's one of the barriers that stops our society progressing.
I have a notion that people wearing suits for work are officious-looking which forms a barrier between people, which is why I avoid wearing one whenever I can, but while I have this idea I also try to reserve judgement about someone wearing one until I know more about the individual in an attempt to challenge my own preconception.
I expect there's a case now for people being subject to Swingingheavenism..............
