To be honest, I'm a royalist. I favour a truly working Monarchy (as opposed to a Constitutional one) with real powers of state such as those found amongst the 12 European States that have Monarchs.
France still has a royal family, believe it or not - the Bourbons. It is said that Prince Louis Alphonse, the present head of the family, is intent on creating a Political Party in France to contest the Presidential Elections under the terms of the 5th Republic whereupon, if elected, would create a new constitution with a Monarch. The Monarch would replace the President as head of state and would form a Government - much as happens now.
The major difference would be that of stability. In place of ever changing policies and political flavour would be an enduring modern Monarchy with safeguards about replacement and lineage. As now, the République would first and foremost so that there will be no question of "subjects" as alluded to by Staggs, only Citizens of the République Française.
I think they might still keep the guillotine in moth balls in a store room off the Champs Élysées though - just to be certain :grin:

Blue the monarchy may well be technically a minority as may the rich.....but they are far from oppressed.....they 'rule you/us, there are many things that I don't rise to ....naivety, especially wilful deliberate faux naivety isn't one of them.

I never said they were oppressed and a rise is not what I am after either, I just do not see how it is wrong to vilify some section's of our community but fine if they have money, they are people just the same.
