What is your top 10 movie list of all time ?
It should be interesting to see how many times the same movie gets listed
My top 10 and why
Field of Dreams - because it is crazy but entertaining and so different

The Green Mile - sad but funny and lots of strange bits (best actor Mr Bo Jangles)

The Shawshank Redemption - just a man in prison, you guess what is going to happen next all the way through the movie, and each time your wrong.

We Were Soldiers - a true story of war as it was brutal and honest.
Braveheart - Historically wrong on so many points, slanted against the truth but hey, it is fun to watch.
A Night to Remember - Titanic in black and white without the love story but based on some facts, gets in my list because even without computerisation and animation techniques we have today you still believe your watching the real ship.
The Last Samuria - probably won't appear on anyone else's list but I love it.
Legends of the Fall - The history of America in one movie, Brad Pitt for the ladies.
The worlds Fastest Indian - another true story, funny, interesting, educational and not what you think it is if you have never seen it do yourself a favour.
Apollo 13 - Yes I love true stories that are educational and entertaing
Star Wars, the original film now renamed as Episode 4. 1977, a proper SciFi film showing what could be done with special effects. The first and the best.
Shawshank Redemption: could watch this over and over again. Proper feel good movie and panned by the critics because the “feel good” bit at the end wasn’t in the book.
Lord of the Rings: Huge fan of the books and the films did them justice apart from the large chunks of story lines the missed out from the books, they could have added another film or two.
French Kiss: well I like it, proper RomCom and its got Meg Ryan in it.
Platoon: no idea why but love this film, MrsG won't watch it as she doesn't do blood and guts films.
The Matrix: cracking story line, well made film, excellent special effects and that skin tight cat suit. Just a shame the sequels were pants.
On Golden Pond: great acting, great story about coming to terms with old age and missed opportunities.
Jean de Florette / Manon de Source: French language film(s). Beautifully shot film covering prejudice, family life and struggles, death. Can watch this over and over again. Two films, Jean de Florette is effectively the prequel to Manon de Source which I think is the better story and film.
Mediterraneo: another foreign language film this time in Italian. Group of inept Italian soldiers are asked to set up a look out post on a supposedly deserted Greek island. When their supply ship is destroyed and with no working radio they end up stranded for the rest of the war on what turns out to be an occupied island and slowly are drawn into the Greek society. Well filmed, great story, great characters and a feel good ending. Won the 1992 Oscar for best Foreign Language Film.
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly: the best of the Spaghetti Westerns, no dialog for the first 15 or 20mins and then not much more through the film, good story, bit of comedy, action, suspense and great sound track.
Technically the above is 13 films, sorry. And I could easily have swapped some of the above with Fields of Dreams and The Green Mile (doesn’t get watched often as it’s too long); plus Sleepless in Seattle.
Not been here for a long time. But I love these sorts of questions, as it gives me space to waffle on about nothing. so here goes:
10) The Return of the Living Dead - because, well: a zombie has just eaten some paramedics, then uses their radio to say, "Send more paramedics". That, to me, is Oscar material right there. (This post gets worse from here on in, I might add).
9) Dredd - because I loves me some Judge Dredd, and this actually ruled instead of sucked like the 1995 one.
8) The Evil Dead Trilogy - Had to have the trilogy otherwise this top 10 would have 3 Evil Dead movies in it. Army of Darkness is the greatest horror/comedy/action/fantasy movie ever made. The recent remake was vaguely OKish. This is a high compliment.
7) Reanimator - Still sick, still hilarious.
6) The Rocky Horror Picture Show - It just is the second best musical ever made.
5) Cry Baby - The best musical ever made, and full of messages to live your life by.
4) Plan 9 from Outer Space - What? I rate this higher than stuff like Titanic or Avatar or The Green Mile? BECAUSE IT IS A BETTER MOVIE!!!
3) Waiting for Guffman - Because Christopher Guest is a genius, and this it is funnier than Spinal Tap, and has better songs than Best in Show.
2) Blade Runner - Because - hi? Imma geek, but not so geeky that I like Star Wars / Trek. I cried when Roy said, "Time to die."
1) Inland empire - Because David Lynch, and I could not choose one. I was going to say "Fire Walk With Me", but I would have really meant, "Twin Peaks in its entirety", so it wouldn't count. Anyway - this film gave me nightmares, which O never thought possible as I do not get scared at movies any more - but this did. I have NO IDEA what it is about, but I love it.
At the moment my fav films are
The Help
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
