Does anyone know of any free video editing software I can use to either clip or compress videos so I can send them over email?

Mpeg Streamclip has basic trimming features and fantastic compression ability. I'm a professional video editor and have used it for years, along with every other editor and media geek i know- still can't believe its free!. Its also perfect for converting DVD's to online and mobile formats
If you want free editing software, have a look at Serif as they give do free downloads of their older products to try and encourage you to buy their (reasonably priced) current version. Never used it as its a bit basic for my needs but it should handle most consumer level editing needs
