What condition are your roads in?

In driving around South Wales and other areas since the last lot of snow I'm shocked by the how much the condition of our roads has worsened. 'B' roads seem to be the worst even if they are very busy ones. We have put up with shallow potholes for years but looking now there are many which might be up to 500mm in diameter and up to 50mm in depth.
Previously hitting one of the shallow ones was not so bad due to the layers below forming a bit of a ramp. Now they seem to be sheer-sided. I certainly would not like to hit one at any speed aluminium wheels or steel! The M4 westbound at Cardiff was blocked for a while yesterday whilst small holes between the on-slip and lane one were repaired.
This can only be a very temporary measure at best. A few hundred vehicles passing over these places and they'll probably be as bad as ever.
We pay our taxes every day in the form of road-fund and fuel but get very little in return in the way of repairs.
GOT IT!!!!!!! Perhaps that's part of the Government's master plan!!!! Let the roads get so bad all the cars will have to drive so slow no-one will break the speed limit and there won't be any accidents!!!!
Now why didn't I think of that?????

Smooth,
Think you'll find lots of roads are resembling ploughed fields, that's despite the amounts raised from motorists that just gets put into the general Taxation & Duty 'income' pot by which ever Government is in power.
There's a lovely facility that most local Councils have, motorways and trunk roads are Highways Agency, whereby you can on-line report defects.
My local one is a somple on-line form whereby anyone can report
- Road Surface/Carriageway (pot hole, cracking, edge deterioration, obstruction, mud, flooding, other)
- Pavement/Footpath (cracked paving, kerb damaged, pot hole, obstruction, mud, flooding, other)
- Bridges (Graffiti, damaged, collapsed, other)
- Grid/Drain (Blocked, missing, damaged, dislodged, other)
- Manhole (Rocking, cover missing, damaged, dislodged, other)
- Grassed area (needs cutting, other)
- Pedestrian Crossing (light out, damaged refuge, other)
- Street light (light out, door missing, column damaged, on during day, other)
- Traffic Signal permanent (light out, damaged, other)
- Traffic Signal temporary (light out, damaged, other)
- Traffic Sign (missing, damaged or defaced, light out, other)
- Hedge/Tree (needs cutting, danger of falling, overhanging branches, debris on road, other)
- Bollard ((light out, missing, damaged, other)
- Bus Shelters & Stops (damaged)
- Street Name Plate (missing, damaged, other)
- Street Cleaning & Fly Tipping
Dead easy to use, even has a 'flag' that you position on a map so precise location that they translate to an address or landmark, and covers all the Concil areas across the County
Shame Cardiff City Council isn't as easy to use or find on their website though
