Somebody I was talking to the other day said I looked like "a bath bomb type of woman" - I'm not! For me, it's a bar of soap and the scratchiest bath mitt known to mankind. I know harsh soaps are bad for the skin, but I just can't stand the sensation that most liquid soaps, shower gels and cream soaps leave - feels like it's not quite rinsed out. What do you use?

I love all sorts of smellies.....and so does apey!!! even though he says he doesn't

I'm with you on the slimeyness of the liquid soaps. It's as though they add something oily which clings to your skin. loon
For me it's a bar of Dove (not as harsh as 'proper' soap) and a flannel. That goes for body and 'hair'.
Obviously if there's a woman available at the time I'll take full advantage of that too.

Be careful what you put in your bath water:

Sanex shower gel and a good old fashioned flannel.
Anything in the bath usually leaves a residue on me and on the bath. And I HATE cleaning the bath. It gets a rinse after use but oils and such means a full-on Cillit Bang-type scrubbing session - every time! Yuk.
I tried washing my hair in nothing but water for 2 months - 2 weeks of greasy horribleness followed by 6 weeks of lovely clean bounciness. Hair can cope oerfectly well without soaps, in fact the oil glands oer-react to the too-clean effect. I can't remember why I went back to washing with detergent. I may go back to water.

In the shower, or in the bath? Going to work, or going to meet someone?
If in the shower going to work: whatever's the cheapest half decent shampoo in Morridogs the last few weeks. Start with more than's strictly necessary in the palm of me 'and, brisk rub all over the 'ead, transfer lather to armpits, rub again, transfer newly lathered up hand to pubes, ass crack, then rub briskly all over. Rinse off. Job done.

Sanex, whichever one, not fussed....I've used liquid soap for years. Any frequent wash shampoo, cos it's gonna be used anything from 4 to 10 times a week, but I wil use anything to wash my hair rather than not wash it....like even washing up liquid if I find myself without a shampoo.

In the bath i use some form of liquid soap such as bubble bath or shower gell, rarely use soap except for washing my hands, soap is to harsh for my skin. I wash my hair with herbal essences shampoo which i love cus it smells so nice. I sometimes use a Lush bath bomb when someone has kindly treated me to one smile

The fresh juices of a virgin ...... back to reality.
Soap for everywhere, apart from my hair. Hair is washed with what ever bottle of stuff Kay has left closest to me when I go in the shower (note the effects can be odd if that bottle is labelled conditioner).

Pickling vinegar. It's great and leaves you clean and doesn't dry you out. I spray it on wet skin and then use a flannel. Then rinse it off so you don't smell like a chip ;o) I've also used it as a hair conditioner too.
When I don't use this I use Imperial leather soap and water, it kinda feels more luxurious to have the choice.

I rarely have baths. I get bored just sitting there in my own muck and I can't wash my hair in bath water so I end up having a shower afterwards anyway. :-?
I use exfoliating mitts every morning in the shower with whatever shower gel/cream is currently not making me itch, followed by gallons of moisturiser. I'm loving Garnier body lotion and Body Shop Shea body butter.
I wash my face before the shower with either T Zone or Nivea scrubs followed by Clarins pure melt cleansing gel to soothe and soften the skin, followed by Nivea Soft, followed by Nivea Q10.
I know it sounds like a right faff on and it is but I don't have much choice, my skin is too sensitive and dry. If I don't get my routine in order, I spend all day feeling uncomfortable. I'd prefer to just use ordinary soap but my skin won't tolerate it. The kindest stuff is aqueous cream but it doesn't smell too pretty.

I'd be interested to see how you fair with vinegar and no moisturiser. Perhaps try a forearm or somewhere not too sensitive to see if there is a difference?

a flannel and shower gel! the feeling of sponges (both synthetic and natural) goes through me as does the feeling of a bath scrunchie thingymajig.
I do like to dry off with a very rough, almost cardboard stiff, line dried towel...soft and fluffy just doesnt do it for me!

what kind of vinegar? I dunno ... it's acidic so surely too harsh for sensitive, dry skin types?

Heya load! :welcome:
I am quite curious about the non-conventional approaches here so... questions.
Derek, do you really never ever use anything but vinegar?
foxylady, did you try out the water-only hair washing on long or short hair? I've had a couple of friends and acquaintances who had also tried this and, just like you, they went back to shampoo for no reason they could remember of!

Whatever Mrs Tweeky is washing me with on that day. I dont even look anymore lol

Marya it is acidic and that is what kills the bacteria. The way I understand it it's about the opposite PH as soap (soap is an alkaline) But unlike soap is doesn't dry you out. I have used various types of vinegar and now I use clear pickling vinegar (it's the cheapest)
Mincepie I choose what to use now. I like the smell of the soap I use and it feels kinda luxurious...more than before. I use vinegar about 50% of the time. I occasionally had a bit of athletes foot but it cured that. If you have any issues then the vinegar feels warmer on that area. Vinegar definitely leaves my skin smoother and less dry.
