Harissa is gorgeous. Very hot and spicy and I think it's from North Africa, maybe Morocco. A tiny bit added to a plain food or more added to a more robust meal lifts it to a new level. Just a warning - DON'T LICK THE SPOON!.
You can get it from those deli's that charge silly money for dry pasta. :D

It's a hot chilli sauce/paste from Tunisia, you can't beat it with fresh olives, tuna, salad and chunks of bread as a starter
