I went into our local pound shop today to buy some mints (I have quit smoking but am now on twenty packets of extra strong a day :sad: )
An elderly gent was also perusing the sweety counter and picked up a bar of choccy which he examined for a short while before looking for an assistant. i naturally assumed he wanted a different variety or something but oh no,
he walked up to her and asked quite genuinely

Warwick. I like your story, but believe improvements could be made on it.
It would have been more heart-warming if the confectionary in question was Werthers Originals, lovingly purchased for a young grandson, the first such butter candy type suckable sweet purchased by said elderly gentleman for said young'un. We would all have aaaahed quite naturally at that point.
Then, and this is where you could truly have injected some pathos into the story, you reveal that the old gentleman in question was holding up not the big bag of the aforementioned delightfully creamy refined sugars featured in all those soft-focus adverts, but a tube, a tube I tell you, pondering how much even so trifling a treat costs these days because that's all he could afford out of his pension, thanks to all the Tory govt cuts, the bastards.
It would have been a winner mate. Landslide victory at the next election on the back of that, trust me, and you blew it! :x
