If a mod feels that my thread should be deleted, it would be nice to be told why.

I couldn't agree more - no wonder so few people post on this forum, when posters are treated like fucking 5 year olds. Some people need to take their heads out of their arses and stop fucking this forum up for genuine debators.
It'll probably be back after the serial complainer's rant has been thoroughly investigated and once again seen to be without foundation wink
Strange though - last time it was only locked :lol2:

Except when the people debating, are really just arguing for the sake of arguing.

It may have been moved to get rid of something against the AUP and be returned later. Or someone may have complained about it, in which case it's probably under review, as GnV has said.

But I haven't.....
Seems the serial complainer has at long last managed to kill off the CA.
No-one has posted anything significant in days as it now seems pointless despite some juicy CA issues in the news.
Ah well rolleyes

Pretty much the same in the cafe, its gone all dead in there. That is of course discounting anything that makes me add five random words or two related words together for the rest of my life. To be honest I'd rather stick pins in my eyes biggrin

I find it difficult to summon up the enthusiasm at present
Got to ask yourself if its worth making a comment when threads disapear for unexplained reasons.

Actually an explanation was sent to the OP.
GNV, you're starting conspiracies based on no facts whatsoever. The thread was not removed due to a members' complaint that you are insinuating and I suggest that since you are trying to damn someones character you actually apologise to that person for jumping to conclusions.
Forestfunsters - no-one was treated like a 5 year old, although some people act like them with their snide comments about something they know nothing about. If you have a specific problem with the way the site is moderated, perhaps you would like to contact Admin to discuss it?
If a forum lacks posts or comments it is down to you, the members, as we cannot force you to post. You generate the interest, not us. We don't stifle debate or discussion, we just monitor behaviour to prevent threads descending into slanging matches or point scoring. I am not saying this about the specific thread mentioned here, but any thread in general.
We would prefer not to have to do or say anything and only take appropriate action as the last resort.
If anyone would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact myself or any moderator.
Merry Xmas! lol

GnV, I'm not sure which serial complainer you might be referring to, cos I must have missed the final nail in the coffin? dunno confused In any event I'm not sure any one complaint about any one thread in particular would really be all that significant as far as forum activity goes? The forum has been seemingly dying on its arse for some time now? I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just that time of year.
I think I know which thread we're discussing. I think it's obvious to anyone who read it, including Browning himself why it was removed. Not sure any further explanation is really needed on that one, or that any blame needs to be laid at anyone else's door but the OP? :dunno: :?
N x x x ;)
Maybe I'm being thick, but if there is a particular thread running and there are unacceptable comments on it, why can't the individual comments be removed, with a note form the mods in their place. Which would let the rest of the thread run its course?
John
I sometimes wonder when I see threads like this, if they cause as much damage as the one which was removed.
To clean up the thread after people have multiple quoted will make it look like a motorway crash. It would be better to just restart the thread, as has happened in the past, hopefully stay on topic-ish (you know how well they meander about).

Conspiracy theories help make the CA interesting from time to time. Besides, SH played its own part in removing a thread to the extent that the OP had (then) no idea why.
If I knew who I should apologise to, I probably might in a spirit of Christmas cheer, but that's half the fun of a conspiracy theory isn't it, you just drop little hints around until you arrive - eventually - at some sort of answer and now we have

You were the one who mentioned "the serial complainer" twice,so you obviously had someone in mind, otherwise you wouldn't have posted the comments. So, in the spirit of Christmas, why not just get on and apologise?
And remember, 'little hints' can sometimes be perceived as 'little digs.'

Perhaps you have someone in mind I should apologise to dunno
I thought SH had a no naming and shaming policy...
Well this seams to be the the liveliest thread currently in the CA section so not all bad really.
I think what Gnv said was more of a "If the cap fits wear it" sort of comment... My gran used to do a similar thing when she addressed all us grandchildren, and then wait to see which one felt the need to reply lol
A conspiracy you say, sounds like fun, we could certainly do with something to liven up the CA!

It does - nobody asked you to name and shame, just apologise to the person you insinuated was a serial complainer. It doesn't have to be in public.
Conspiracy theories are all well and good, unless it's a whispering campaign about a member - that can be tantamount to bullying, whoever that member is.
Now, it's obvious that some people just want to argue this point to the N'th degree because they are bored or just enjoy sniping for effect. However I personally have better things to do than indulge them. If anyone wants to take this forward, please feel free to PM me.
Merry Christmas

Me too
And the last word goes to ?
Place your bets :-)
As the Op, I have this to say.
I have been contacted by a mod and told why my thread was removed. I don't agree with the thread being removed, however, I do understand that what I posted was quite harsh and maybe I could have worded it better.
However, I do feel that if someone posts something in appropriate, let the posters argue against it.

In all cases? Regardless of what they write? You would prefer the anarchy of a completely un-moderated forum?
If not, then you must agree that a line must be drawn somewhere. And where should the line be drawn? Who by? What happens when someone crosses that line?
Follow that logic and you are back to - a forum needs mods, they need the power to remove threads, that power is exercised when certain critria are reached. Those criteria are decided by the mods and admins (I'm not familiar with the details of the forum management structure).
I would say - if you don't like how it's done - become a mod. If you would rather not do that, then surely entry into the forum and submission of a post indicates acceptance of the existing moderation.
Agree with all of that foxy, but........
How do we decide what is acceptable and what is not.
I am a member of a landrover forum and there is a 'anything goes' section and it can get very heated, however, if someone disagrees with what someone says, then they argue the point, not delete it.
Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.

Swinging is not generally acceptable so it makes for a slightly more "touchy" enviroment...

It is only a touchy environment because of the people involved, not the swinging.
